Gaudreau line being sat for the last five minutes (since the completion of the hat trick).
Gaudreau has never scored a hat trick of his own in college.

A 3 point night for Gaudreau, all assists on Bill Arnold's hat trick.
He is now at 56 points in 28 games, and back to the 2.0PPG pace.
Depending on what happened in other games, he could now lead the nation in goals, assists, and points.
With his 3 assists, he passed Arnold as the team leader in assists...Pretty smart move ensuring Arnold wouldn't get any assists of his own by setting him up to score.

How many games are there in a typical college hockey season? 44? 45?
I ask because, dare I wonder, can Gaudreau hit 100 points on the season? I know it's unheard of, but I'm just wondering if it's even attainable at his current pace given the games remaining?

44.
I think 100 is out of range, but 90 is certainly feasible.

They have 6 more regular season games.
Then come the Hockey East playoffs. They should get a bye to the quarter finals. Assuming they go to the Finals, that's another 3 games.
Then, they'll have the NCAA Championships. That's anywhere from 1 to 4 more games.
So, that's a maximum of 13 more games, which would be 41 total (a minimum of 8 more, or 36 total).

Kariya had a 100 point season in 39 games.
Tony Hrkac had 116 points in 48 games.

I think 44 points in 8-13 games might be out of reach even for Johnny.

He can keep scoring at 2pts/game pace in college. Then he can drop off to 1.2pts/game at the NHL level and his career. Not too much to ask

Ok. I give up on that formatting... But Johnny has already past last years leader. He'll likely end the top college scorer of the last decade...

And really only Miele anywhere close to his PPG. Miele is about the same size as Gaudreau but really only had that one giant year.
Funny how most of that list is tiny guys:
Miele 5'8
Hensick 5'10
Gerbe 5'5
Sertich 5'8
Abbott 5'9 (Burke actually signed this guy with the Leafs... but doesn't he hate small guys??)
And I give up on the rest of them..

Nyquist could be, Gerbe kind of is. But yeah, point taken. We'll see if Gaudreau has what it takes to separate himself from that bunch later on.

And Gaudreau is the second youngest player on the list, behind only Gustav Nyquist, who was about two weeks younger.

Nyquist has 22 points in 30ish games this season for Detroit, so if Gaudreau follows a similar path, he should be a decent player for us soon

Who was the last true impact player from college? I know there are now a lot of players coming from college, but off the top of my head in not sure of the last special player.
Having said all that, Gaudreau seems to be in rarified air. None of those other players are really comparables

Jaden Schwartz is doing very well in St. Louis.
18 goals and 41 points in 54 games. Can't think of anyone else right now.
Jacob Trouba's doing well on a mediocre Jets team. 22 points in 42 games as a defenseman.
