- The city has posted signs letting the public know "you can't camp here, it's not a suitable space for camping "(warning #2)
- When the protesters set up a camp the city says "we have bylaws against camping there, it's not a suitable space for camping"(warning #3)
- The protesters continue camping
- The city post a notice that once again says "this is not a campground" (warning #4)
- The protesters continue camping
- The city issues tickets saying "you can't camp here, it's not a campground" (warning #5)
- A tent catches fire and injures two people

The city has maintained from the onset that Olympic Plaza is not a campground, they have told the people camping there that it is not a campground. The protesters choose to ignore these many, many warnings and continue to camp. Then when they got hurt "Hey! How come you didn't protect us!"
Great points, but even if it was a campground it's still the fault of the less than smart tent owner to not know that open flame + tent material = bad.

Well yes, I do recall being told at the ripe age of 7 or 8 that candles in a tent are a big no no.

But any and all personal responsibility seems to be lost with this group.

Only a complete moron has an open flame in a tent. The fact they expect the city to provide electricity is hilarious. GTFO.

Taking a page from Occupy Calgary’s book, members of the Christian community gathered in City Hall yesterday to test their own limits of expression.

“Last week, Occupy Calgary came out and they had a Buddhist, sort of Tibetan ceremony here in the lobby with meditation and everything else, and it seemed to go well,” said Jim Blake, chairman of Concerned Christians Canada.

No real sympathy for the idiots that lit themselves on fire. I'd be fine if the other idiots did likewise - perhaps the city should provide gas and matches, and then wait for the problem to solve itself.

With every passing day these folks demonstrate again and again the they are not the sharpest knives in the drawer. I'd find it hard to believe that they are gaining any support the longer this foolishness goes on.

It's just an assumption based on the 11:30am deadline. Our monocled friends will need to provide a pbp update

Is it just coincidence that all the occupy sites are being taken down roughly at the same time?

I'm not going to provide PBP. Sorry.

Jayborn had a Twit we could all follow he mentioned earlier:

Quote:
He's not on CP (that I know of) but @lonnietaylor has by far been the most balanced live coverage of the entire protest since the initial march on Oct 15th.

He reports things very neutrally and just reports it unvarnished. If a protester is being disruptive/unreasonable he'll say so. If Cory B is grand standing or name calling, he'll say that too.

More idiocy from the protesters, possibly a threat?

An #occupycalgary protester specifically asked me to take a photo of this and tweet @nenshi. #yyccc twitpic.com/7f0s22
To which Nenshi replied:

@lonnietaylor you might want to tell him that no one from his group has ever requested a meeting with me.
I'm sure the protesters would argue that they invited him to their camp many times & they were outside city hall so he could have initiated a meeting at anytime.

calgary.openfile.ca is also doing a great job of aggregating today's activities & tweets into an easier to digest format.

I wish I had the option to stop paying for these freeloaders...It's laughable that they feel the need to waste the tax money of the "99%" they are supposed to be fighting for.

All of you Occupy Calgary people are twits.

I feel bad that people got hurt, but you have to be pretty fracking stupid to have an open flame in your tent at any time, especailly since most of these people are slobs and the flame ignited their chip bags, and rolling paper.

This is in no way the cities fault, take some personal responsibility.
