Trump attorney Todd Blanche moves for an acquittal of the charges, not withstanding the verdict. Blanche says there’s no way the jury could’ve reached the verdict without the testimony of Michael Cohen, and that the defense believes Cohen committed perjury at this trial. Judge Juan Merchan denies the acquittal motion. [cnn]

and normally I would cheer for riots like after a Canucks loss. But lets be real here. The US is an effed up 3rd world country and the amount of guns is insane. So no riots please...

I'm currently hosting trivia at a local tap room.

I said in between questions:

Before I move onto the next question, there are times in our lives when we remember where we were the moment it happened. 9/11, the Kennedy Assination, I think this is one of those times... the verdict of the Donald Trump trial in New York just came down... guilty on all charges

Okay this is funny. Considering the whole photo op thing that they do on election day. Probably doesn't even have to get dressed until they are ready to announce the winner.

I hate that there were no cameras. I’d love to see his face as the foreman read off the verdict.

I haven’t followed this much.

What will the likely sentence be? Is prison a certainty?

Thanks.

My brief Google understanding;
Max sentence in 4 years per count, but no way he gets that.

I bet he doesn't get any jail time. Fine, probation maybe home confinement or something

It's a class E felony I've read (the lowest class) which is up to 4 years in jail, but I think it's rare for a first time offender to be put in jail.

Plus he has 34 counts to appeal. I would guess this could be years from being over and the orange fella actually beginning whatever sentence the judge decides upon.

whatever the sentence (probably just home confinement or something), the key to me is: Donald Trump is a convicted felon now. That in itself is a success. There should be a collective sigh of relief across America (outside of the cult, obviously) right now because the system still kind of works. And that is a good thing in times when the US Supreme Court is full of partisan lunatics and judges like Eileen Cannon are happy to sloooooow-walk cases against the dear leader. Seeing him held accountable in a court of law is a victory.

Those 12 jurors deserve a ton of credit. I think the case was a slam dunk, but the pressure must have been intense. Former president who resorts to mafia tactics all the time and loves to rile and fire up his wacko supporters ... couldn't be easy. They've served their country well.

Didn't Michael Cohen spend a decent amount of time in prison for these same charges?
