Not overly, essentially just frames up the picture scouts have already.

Flashbacks of Sam Bennett can't do a pull-up.

I don't know. Maybe if the player came up eating a dq blizzard and looking portly it's a red flag. I remember tod button saying he doesn't really put a ton of stock in the combine results. If a kid has all world talent but isn't in the best shape of his life, it's good thing because the player can grow into his talent more.

I agree that talent is always what matters most. But if you didn’t have the work ethic to get in shape by the time of the NHL draft combine, it’s reasonable to have doubt as to whether the work ethic and discipline will ever come together.
But I guess that’s part of what interviews are for. Because of course there are guys like Andersson who get it together with guidance. There’s also guys like Howse who don’t. And then for other players, like Gaudreau or Kippersauf, fitness hardly seems to matter.

You definitely don’t want the player you’re selecting to be at his peak at 18, but I think in this day age, even in Major Junior, the players are expected to put time and effort into their conditioning. I think a player with poor conditioning has some issues. Take Rasmus Andersson for example-with the totals he put up in his draft year, he should have been taken higher, but he had the rep of being out of shape and lazy. Thank god he fell, though.
I do agree that you want prospects with room to grow, though.

I still think Perreault is someone that will be very high on Conroys list and I would be very happy to get him at 16.

So many good players in this year's crop, I think we'll be happy with just about anybody in our range.

I really hope we get a bigger player with skills. Our current better prospects too small.

The only problem is that every other team is in the same situation, unless they traded their pick away. While we stand to get a good prospect, so does almost everyone else, so we aren't likely gaining ground over anyone. It's good for the league in general though.

I agree. With Lucic and Ritchie leaving (I know, they are both slow and useless anyway) we're getting pretty small, with Mangiapane, Dube, and Pelletier on the team, and Coronato set to perhaps join the team next year. Not too bad, but they need some beef to play with- preferably the swift, skilled kind.

Any idea who fits that bill? I genuinely can't think of anyone off the top of my head.

This is where teams with an edge in player development have an advantage.
Obviously, not all these first rounders will make it. Some just won't put it all together at the next level, and there's always examples of players being being pushed onto the stage before they're ready. We certainly don't have to look far from here to see results of that.

In this draft? Beef? Around pick 16? Wood, Danielson, Yager, Ritchie, Honzek, But, Musty, Barlow.
I've been trying to find the ledge where it would be considered "reaching" for a player after 16 in rankings. My gut is telling 23rd or 24th ranked players.

Danielson really grown on me lately, but Callum Ritchie or Yager do the trick for Flames targets too. There's just so many players, it's a crazy deep 1st round. Can't wait for draft day.

I'm still on the Wallinder train. Toot toot.
I listened to a good interview with him the other day and he comes across as very mature and understands what he needs to do to get even better. Sounded like a 25 year old NHL vet.

It’s interesting how guys like Bedard at 5’9.75” weigh as much as Danielson and Ritchie and nearly as much as guys like Wallinder and Wood who are 6’4”.
Even Coronato weighed more at the draft than did Jankowski who towers over him.
Are there many example of guys who were 6’4” and 185 lbs at the draft who eventually end up weighing 220+ lbs?
I think Joe Colborne might be an example. Can’t think of many others.

6’1 two-way RD who’s rated the 2nd best skater in the entire draft and already plays a mature, pro game. He checks a lot of boxes.

These types of feedback I'm hearing really makes me hope the flames grab a second first rounder to snag a defenseman and a prominent forward
