Just because you don't think much of existing borders does not mean you don't see why it would be nice to draw your own.
I'd guess it's probably the opposite. If you see borders as just something someone drew on a map, then there's nothing odd about someone drawing new ones either. Arbitrary after all does not mean "not real". It means "we could just as well put this line here instead of there."
