Even if the smart move was to make no deals at all the optics of this deadline will not be looked at favourably by fans if they don't make the playoffs. A lot of fans will look back at today and wonder why a team that hasn't done much of anything in 20 years stood pat on deadline day when they have a legit chance to finally get to the dance. Was kind of hoping for any kind of deal just to make it looked like they were trying.

Hard to blame AA about not being able to make a deal when he has handcuffs on with an internal budget. That said, disappointing that he didn't make a deal but hoping they can continue this hot streak with the group that they have.

Lawrie/Encarnacion/Lind getting healthy and returning are better than any trade. The key is to stay as healthy as possible down the stretch. A healthy Morrow could return around September too.

I am okay if he doesn't pitch another inning with the Jays...ever.

All you guys spouting off the budget conspiracies are annoying. He wasn't going to spend money and bankrupt the farm just to make our payroll #'s bigger

Problem is with the starting pitching... look at the other top teams (i.e. A's), their pitching is substantially better.
I would be curious if Hutchison is on a pitch count this season and will be shut down....

I believe in the Jays.

Ok... you know the two aren't mutually exclusive right?
Regardless, I thought the Jays wouldn't do anything (although another SP would have been really nice... if for nothing more then to allow Hutch and Stroman to piggyback some starts to keep their innings down until, fingers crossed, the post-season) and thankfully the talent largely moved out of the AL East.
Damn thou, don't the rotations for the Tigers and A's look insane.

Can't... not while we're in a playoff position. Can't put any trust in a AAAA to start a game until a playoff position is assured. That goes for Stroman as well. They might get the hook a little early come September if the games aren't close but no way will they shut any guys down so long as their legitimately chasing playoff action.

What conspiracy? I am reporting what ESPN reported. Guess they are part of the conspiracy

Yeah no quality players got traded today, just payroll inflaters!!!
He's the face of the franchise and has a right to be disapointed.
The Orioles, Yanks, Det, Seattle, A's and Anaheim (Earlier in the week with Hudson) all got better.

When your franchise player feels this way its an issue for sure, Jays are a glorified AAA club

the farm? really? how many years has it been that the Jays farm has been so great and what has it done for them. Big time players in baseball go to the highest bidder this year is/was the Jays only shot. NYY and Boston are about to load up just watch in the offseason

Bautista is 100% right. But he is 100% wrong to say this publicly right now. This team is riding a very positive wave and need every ounce of good vibes they can get to keep it rolling.

I personally think doing nothing to improve the club, while a bunch of others were, does more to kill the clubhouse than Bautista being upset about it.

Yes it does. That's why he's right. But him publicly complaining just piles it on. Ugh, not good.
Will be interesting to see how they come out tonight. A loss will be bad bad news.

it's not just Bautista. Janssen said the same yesterday. If you stick a mic in front of his face now he'd be mad too.

Hockey - No moves at deadline "GM believes in us and this group"
Baseball - No moves at the deadline "Our GM sucks, the organization is cheap and we're disappointed"

you can spin anything, point is their chances are worse today...and this whole talk of not mortgaging the future is irrelevant in baseball
Yanks and Boston will buy whatever they need to stay better than the Jays like they have for the better part of 20 years

TSN reported that in a meeting with the players before the start of the season / after spring training, Beeston told them that funds would be available to enhance the team if they were a winner.
I guess the results as of today aren't enough for those funds to be made available.
