Man oh man.. When I first heard the ROR offer sheet I was pumped, now less then 24 hours later I'm incredibly thankful they matched.

Bruce Arthur @bruce_arthur
Ryan O'Reilly's agent, Pat Morris, just told @TSNRadio1050 that he didn't know his client would head to waivers if Colorado didn't match.

It is conceivable that other teams were willing to have O'Reilly sit out the there.
I'm sure rumors swirl through-out that teams are considering putting offer sheets in. It's possible that a team like Canucks was aware of the waiver rules and decided that they're okay with O'Reilly sitting out the rest of the year. They caught wind of what the Flames were doing and tried to beat them to the punch (or at least offer O'Reilly a second offer sheet before he signed the Flames).

Bruce Arthur @bruce_arthur
Morris also said a number of other teams inquired about offer sheets. Presumably, none of them knew either, or they would have told him.

Morris sounds like an idiot to me because as the agent he should have known to his best advise his client not to play after the NHL season started. It isn't the GM's responsibility to explain the rules to an agent. Guy sounds like a complete douch saying "or they would have told (me)".

I don't know...sounds like NO ONE knew about this, based on those Bruce Arthur tweets.

An absolute embarrasment, and debacle. Obscure rule or not, when you're going to stick your neck out with $10m and two draft picks on something as rare as an offer sheet, you better know everything you're doing.
There is 1% of me that makes me think that Feaster did Lacroix a favour here...the wording that the Avs GM said last night in his PC describing matching the offer (which Neil Smith ripped him for), now tied in with this news, almost makes it seem palatable that this was part of Colorado's strategy.

If true, then Feaster should be fired for sure.
He essentially just helped Colorado who is/was fighting for a playoff spot with the very team Feaster is apparently the GM of.
Oh man........if this is true then not only should he be fired but his NHL career is done.
Would there be any conflict of interest issues?

Feaster should have known about this because he was the one who put forth the offer sheet.
I don't care of Dale Tallon or Dave Nonis didn't know about this - they didn't put forth the offer sheet and have it signed.
Feaster did. Feaster didn't know.

I'm sure Flames ownership is going to keep him in place until we don't dodge one of these bullets. Why remove someone for showing glaring signs of incompetence right? Lets let them prove it unequivocally!

Where is the source for the rumblings of other teams, including Vancouver, offering RoR an offer sheet? Was it just the agent speaking? Is it printed anywhere?

If you don't can him over a dodged bullet, you can sacrifice him to save your job when he doesn't dodge the bullet.

Am I correct in assuming if the Flames would have given up 1st & 3rd round picks to get O'Reilly, then lost him to another team via waivers and have to pay half of his salary (re-entry waivers)?

Feaster just lost a ton of credibility.
King has said he has vetoed deals in the past...so he should be sweating as well.

Wait so Feaster knew about the potential problem and didn't get clarification with the league before proceeding?

'Now that they matched it's purely an academic point'. Ouch! I'm kind of lost for words.. glad the flames dodged this one (more for the sake of Iggy, Kipper and the like who have stuck with this organization)

From the Flames' statemenet as per the main Falmes site:
"Our interpretation of the Article 13 transition rules governing restricted free agents (“RFA”), and the applicability of Article 13.23 under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement to such RFA’s was, and continues to be, different than the NHL’s current interpretation as articulated to us this morning"
To me, that statement implies that the Flames did not, in fact verify with the league that O'Reilly would be free of the waiver rule.
If so, Feaster HAS to be fired. He has to be. There is no credibility going forward otherwise.
And this is maybe a bit more ambiguous, but I think KK has to be shown the door as well.
