We work with Shaw and their deal at 3 Eau Claire is dead for now.
They may rekindle some interest when/if the site gets sold to a develop who can actually deliver but for now that whole project is dead in the water.

Shaw pulled out, and that was pretty much the death knell for 3EC.

Bentall did acquire the site, there was a company taking soil samples just the other day there.

I heard they put in an offer but it hadn't closed as of yet.

Shaw can't even get caller id to show up on my TV or DLNA gateway support to work. Besides, they're only on year two of the 30 year Shaw Court renovation.

So if all the cool oil and gas companies jumped off a bridge should Imperial have done that too?
Total bump, but you can blame chemgear for that in the layoffs thread

Whooo! Simons! The one in Edmonton is great. It's like Harry Rosen but actually affordable. Glad they're doing something with that building. It's a shopping block, so why not put in something big to compete with Harry Rosen and the Bay.
And obviously, I have no emotional connection to the Unicorn. Bye bye basement bar.

Simons is awesome, but not at the expense of the Unicorn!

Also trying to find out if the beautiful staircase in the Lancaster is going to be saved, I haven't seen it in a while but it is a really standout piece of that building. Everything so far indicates it would get junked, which would be a damn shame.

I haven't been to Simons before but my significant other really likes that store. She has been a couple of times to the store in Edmonton and always ends up with a lot of stuff. This should be good for her.

So another clothing store trumps long time local business' and heritage values of the building?
I'm more worried about respecting the heritage of the building.

I see what you're saying, but some people aren't necessarily attached to heritage buildings and against modern infrastructural development. Plus, the building isn't being demolished, just re-purposed.

Look how much of the building is vacant. The whole frontage along 2nd has sat vacant for 4+ years, as have a number of the retail/food spaces inside. Nothing but upside for this plan.
I have work events at Unicorn a few times a month, and the place is a dump. Nothing of value is lost....unless you like sticky floors and 7ft ceilings.

Sorry, see my edit I just did. I'm more invested in the angle of respecting and preserving the heritage elements of the building. Like I mentioned before there is already a good chance that beautiful stairwell that could be a centerpiece of this project ends up in the land fill.
We have such little history in this town, we need to keep what we have.
