Anyone here ever eradicated a lawn of crabgrass? Did you resod/seed the area? I’m considering removing the affected lawn and resodding it. I don’t know what else to do. It’s two areas in a very large yard.

I've attempted.

Tiny paint brush with round up and paint grass blade by grass blade to kill it off. Prior to doing that let it grow long as the crabgrass will grow faster/longer then your lawn so its easy to spot them. Actually works quite well if you have the patience. Once it dies off push your lawn with an overseed and/or fertilizer to help push the crabgrass out.

Either that or kill the whole thing off and start over with fresh sod.

I’ve considered the paintbrush method but wondered if it’s effective.

I’m considering killing the two patches and re-sodding.

I worry that doing nothing will enable it to spread.

I have one patch full of quack grass I want to treat, I was thinking of wearing nitrile gloves, then some sort of fabric glove I saturate with a kill everything spray. The quackgrass is taller, so I'd just kinda grab them by the handful to make contact with it.

That is how i did it. Cotton glove over a rubber glove - much faster than a paintbrush (which i also tried).

If the ground is kept well watered and regularly mowed the bluegrass will often out compete the quack- and/or crab-grass. If it's an area that is on the dry side then I found i needed to go the round-up route.

That’s a good idea. Seems like it’d be effective and the easiest method.

I just grabbed some cotton gloves at the pharmacy, but I got medium which won't fit under nitrile for me, so this looks like a job for the wife.

I did the full scorched earth method last year and it worked great. Killed the whole area and then I just resod (it was about 9 rolls of sod, so a pretty small area overall). Nothing else has ever worked for me.

It worked great and I love the result, but it was a TON of work.

I had a guy come and quote me for Leaf Filter last year and it was just plain egregious. Maybe I should buy them and install them myself?

My plan is only slightly less stupid. I was going to take the pressure washer up there. The issue is I can't really safely get to the second story, and I also don't need to risk this for a few hundred dollars savings.

I've tried the pressure washer, it's so messy and OK, but water sprays material all over, and eventually back in the gutter. My new favourite which I discovered while re-roofing and needing to clean the gutter mess after is the shop vac. I took the wheels off, and just dragged it around the roof. Now, I've got a low pitch bungalow, so it was pretty easy, but it did a great job with low effort(my favourite).

I had mine done a decade ago. Maybe prices were more reasonable then.

Well I used a guy off Kijiji today and he was great. He came basically immediately, took care of the eaves and took video so I could see it was done, and that was that.

haha, leaf blower and then just a spray with the hose! I think that the shop vac would be better in some ways, just because the debris would be contained. But, he blew them out and then dealt with the aftermath.

And yeah...for $200 for a two-story home, totally worth it.
