Ruzicka’s intensity wanes too often for Sutter, methinks, and he plays pretty soft, especially considering his size. Still a better option than some players that got plenty of ice time.

Pierre Lebrun had an article in the Athletic about the Tkachuk trade and mentioned both the Blues and Hurricanes having youth-based offers on the table. I remember the Blues potential package but was anything leaked about Carolina's?

I believe Martin Necas was part of it.

Necas and a 1st.
Blues rumour was not youth it was Scandella and 1st and I forget the forward mentioned.

From the Athletic
One source said the Blues’ proposal included Vladimir Tarasenko, Marco Scandella and a high draft pick; the team officially declined comment.

Yeah that's a ugly return and we don't know what high draft pick means not flat out saying a 1st makes it seem like a 2nd rounder.
None of the offers really are a rebuilding type offer.
Treliving made out like a bandit with this trade.

In hindsight, Necas and a 1st might have been better

That would have been a great package. Necas has 1st line center potential, I am a big fan. Wish they would have done this deal instead.

Yeah, I think even now the FLA trade was the best deal.
Even with the 80m Huberdeau contract extension I still don't think this trade was the issue.
IMO, it really was the Kadri deal, trading a core leader (as Sutter put it, Captain) in Monahan paired with a 1st to dump his salary to fit Kadri in was the back breaker. In hindsight, letting Monny ride into the sunset of this contract and keeping the 1st would have really alleviated a lot of the issues moving forward and perhaps even changed the entire dynamic of the team this season. Ruzicka would have had more room to operate when the Monahan injuries piled up again. And then moving forward we wouldn't have 7m tied up for 6 more years.
I won't hold it against Tree though. I see and understand the reasoning that move was made.

I get why they didn't and Necas just had a breakout season which makes it sting more but yeah

I wonder if at the time of the deal they knew something was up with Kylington? If that was the case the Florida deal makes even more sense with Weegar being such a critical part of the return.

Maybe but it still the best trade on the table that day. Top 4 dman and top line LW versus a younger guy who put up 40 points the year before and was rumoured to be on the outs with the team.

In hindsight, with more agressive LTIR strategy they still could have signed Kadri. Or some other centre. Or used that first rounder in a trade for a younger centre.

post season presser, Armstrong talked about moving core pieces this summer for other core pieces. The same core pieces that were not on the table for a potential Tkachuk trade. Local rumours were that the Flames wanted Parayko, Kyrou, 1st or Neighbours

I think the team went into the offseason with the mindset to upgrade on D don't think it had anything to do with Kylington as that was later in the summer when he signed and I think the team was caught off guard by his absence.
