I think the NK troops will be dog ####.
Regimes like NK don't lend themselves to creating strong/smart/individualistic troops.
They will be ground up and spat out
Let the bodies hit the floor

Kinda feel bad for the NK troops though. Born into that ####hole, starved, told what job to do, then sent off to do it with whatever information the government has told you over the years. Their best bet is to defect the second they can, but do they even know the concept, or what is actually happening? Probably not, just blindly fed into the magazine and fired out the barrel like an expendable bullet.

If I was one of them, I'd be looking to defect to Ukraine. You're better off having them and the West determine what your best course of action is and willingly put down your arms (if you can) than have Russian and North Korea cornholing you with fascist rule whether you want it or not.

I believe the troops are housed and fed decently on the back of the populace. They also have little exposure outside NK. So I am doubtful they know what is the big picture.
Likely they are going to roar into battle with high morale. Only to get cut down quickly. I am doubtful they surrender en masse. They are Korean after all, and I know how strong willed the culture is.

War f'ing sucks. I hate how many people (and now three, possibly four countries involved in Ukraine), 99.9% of them who don't even want to be part of this, have to die / do the bidding of an insane few who have delusions of grandeur.
In a perfect world, everyone on both sides just lay down their arms and just say '#### off' to their stupid leaders and refuse to fight. If leaders want a fight, they can do it themselves, off to the side in an alley or something, while everyone else ignores them and lives in peace.

The NK troops are one of the beneficiaries of whatever aid trickles into their homeland, so I don't imagine it's a bunch of starving orphans with sticks. I don't imagine they will be super effective either. The real tragedy is that this is still going to result in the deaths of innocent Ukrainians, regardless of how poorly trained or undersupplied the NK soldiers are, or how much they are used as cannon fodder.
They will force the UA to stretch their limited resources that can be used elsewhere, force UA to use their limited manpower, and it's yet another spectacle in which UA is forced to fight within the rules and I can guarantee the NK side won't be doing that. God forbid they come across vulnerable girls/women/civilians taking shelter somewhere and mimic the russian rape machine.
I think even more importantly, this allows russia to continue to largely avoid touching the male populations in Moscow or SPB, basically leaving them untouched once again and keeping any kind of forced mobilization away from those 2 important cities. Russians from those 2 cities don't care about poor villagers from Siberia, and they certainly won't care about a bunch of Asians from NK taking their place on the battlefield.
I wait for the day Putin is forced to pull men from those exact 2 cities, because that will truly mean the end of the war will be in sight. Sadly, he still has the ability to delay this and convince other regimes to send their own men instead of his.

As long as they have no family back home they still care about, because the North Korean believes in punishing family lines for generations for the "crimes" of an individual.
I do have to wonder about the logic of sending them to Ukraine just in time for winter followed by mud season. They are introdusing them to the war at the worst possible time of the year.

You had a couple pretty big typos I fixed for you.
Reminder that Ukraine and their leaders did not want this. They are defending their homes and families from aggression and need our materiel help to do so.

Of course they do. I'm talking about war in general though, not just this one.

I was wondering the same thing. They probably work it like the Olympics, send only people with families so they have the threat of their spouses/kids being punished if they fall out of line.

It is February 24 2022, a 3 day special military operation has begun.
Fast forward to today:
North Korea has invaded Europe
A new deadline is set by Putin to retake Kursk when Ukraine invaded Russia that included German Leopard tanks in Kursk
South Korea may send troops to fight North Korea in Ukraine
And we are still talking about red lines.

Anyone know where the NK troops are deployed? Kursk would be my guess to make detecting not so easy.

So the country that struggled to build fully functional nukes and long-range missile tech could finally get over the hump and become a bigger threat down the road. Hope it was all worth it to bleed off a bunch of 70 year old rusty tanks in a Siberian field. The dominos are going to keep falling.

I still don't think there ever was a real plan, but your point still stands. This is yet another complete failure in "escalation management", and the risk of further escalations remains high.

You can't manage escalation when you are dealing with a nonrational player like Russia. They have proven they are not rational by their actions.
There's only one thing that will stop someone like that and it's a show of force.
