Artical about the demographic shift and how it's starting to take hold in Baseball. The Jays have a few good young pitchers, but in the field they're up there in age. With the steroid era gone, especially in position players I wouldn't be banking on guys past the age of 32 to keep producing the way they did in the past.

I would say the more important thing is that due to the salary structure older players will be paid at their market value or higher while younger players get paid less than market value (especially in their entry level deals).
Combine that with the fact that young players are becoming impact players sooner and sooner and it's a no brainer that team building is done through developing players rather than through free agency. The best small market teams (Twins, Indians) have been doing this for 10-15 years and it's even more important now.

Wow, JP did it again! The only good signing/trade he ever did before and now he gets rid of him on the trading deadline. What's the matter JP you can't unload your screw ups(Wells, Rios and Downs)?

Apparently Wells was rumored to have failed drug tests for PED's back in 2003. Once he was forced off the juice and had his big contract, he lost of ton of weight and started to suck again.
Sound plausible?

Is there anyone who didn't think this was the case is a better question!

Vernon's wife? Can't recall seeing her...
Are you thinking Brandi Halladay?

She looks a lot better now actually.
I also read somewhere that the Sportsnet crew had her in the booth during the whole Halladay trade fiasco and she broke down in tears she was so upset about the whole situation.

Those two really do deserve better than what JP has made of this team.
Both are really good people. It sucks that they will probably go elsewhere in the next year or so.

So it goes in today's game, as the actuarial tables get rewritten. Only six players 36 or older have played enough to qualify for the batting title, and only four of them actually play in the field: Raul Ibanez, Chipper Jones, Mike Cameron and Craig Counsell.
• Get ready for another cold winter. Anybody else notice the complete lack of contract extensions signed this year? The union has, which is why most people expect a collusion charge is coming. The Pirates gave the extension idea a go with Jack WilsonFreddy Sanchez, but by offering them cuts. Clubs value young players so highly now they would rather give them a shot than invest multiple years in free agents in their 30s. Get ready for more Adam Dunns, Orlando Hudsons, Orlando Cabreras, Bobby Abreus, etc.
From the artical posted by Pagal. Yes, Baseball teams are now really placing a lot of value on the younger players and players over the age of 30 might find it tough to get that huge pay day they're looking for. Even Baseball is subject to the laws of demographics.

I smiled a bit when I saw "actuarial tables" be used in a sports article.

The Jays are meeting the Yankees at the right time. The Yankees have really stinked it up as of late going 5-5 in thier last 10 games.

The (lack of) run support for Halladay is ridiculous.

Why is he still in the game after the back to back bombs in the 8th? First pitch of the 9th is another Yankee HR.

And why is Millar not being pinch hit?
A couple of questionable decisions by Cito.
