Fido put up a new carrier settings file recently that enables the tethering options on the iPhone.
USB tethering appears to work correctly but I don't think Fido has opened up the gates yet. Windows picks up the "Apple Mobile Device Ethernet" and can resolve an IP from the iPhone. I can resolve hostnames from Windows which shows that it's working, but can't actually ping anything or browse the web.
I wonder how badly the Rogers/Fido data network is going to get hammered on tomorrow.

A question I have if someone can answer is: Am I eligible to get this new iPhone on a 3 year contract? Its been over a year since I signed my contract. When I first signed my contract I simply just got the sim card, no phone at all. From what I understand the reason a phone is so cheap is because the cost is spread out over the 3 years but I never got a phone.

Rogers did the same thing, too. I downloaded their carrier settings when I installed the leaked version of the 3.0 OS a couple days ago.
I haven't tested USB tethering yet, but bluetooth tethering works like a dream.
(3.0 is -very- nice, btw.)

Tested USB tethering about an hour ago.
Was (relatively) fast! Did a speed test and hit just under 1MB down, only 100KB up though (of course). It's about on par with Telus. I had their top-level plan about a year ago, and I was barely breaking 2MB up / 500KB down. Nowhere near what I get with Shaw now (for the same price)... but I digress...
Anyway... Happy 3.0 everyone! Last I heard, the official launch is around 1PM (ET) today.

Wow the twitter-sphere is upset that it didn't launch precisely at midnight. I was curious last night before bed to see if east coasters had it yet. Once midnight hit (and I'm talking exactly midnight) there were several hundred people spitting mad hot fire that it wasn't immediately available.

"iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw"
(It's the full 230MB GM release from the WWDC... there's also a 122MB version that someone labeled "GM" but most people are calling fake)

ITunes says that I have 2.61 GB of audio files, which is more than everything else (apps, photos, etc.) combined. I've never downloaded one audio file so why do audio files seem to occupy more of my iPhone's storage capacity than everything else combined? I have a lot of photos on my phone so I don't see how this could be possible.

Are you syncing any iTunes playlists with your phone? Did you drag any songs/podcasts/etc. over onto your phone?
I don't typically download music using my phone itself - most of my stuff got there via iTunes on my PC.

Does your phone have music on it? Music from your computer?

I have to ask MoneyGuy, you ask a lot of questions about the phone like it's made of magic or something.. how old are you? 65 or something?

Macrumors.com seems like it's getting hit pretty hard right now...
Edit: Nvm. It passed. I couldn't get a page to load for almost 5 minutes, but their site's working now.

3.0 is here! (Downloading now.)
Edit: Here's some reading material: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=723033
Edit: If the download isn't coming up for you, when you click on the update button, then just click on the restore button. You should get the EULA for 3.0 to start the process. ( If you restore, make sure you back up whatever you need, first, since it will completely wipe your phone. Actually, I think the restore process will ask you if you want to back up...)
Oh hey, that reminds me... I want to try out that Remote Wipe feature...

I get this message:
There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone. The requested resource could not be found.
Anyone seen that?

My coworker got that. He was running beta 5 and was going to try and upgrade, we had the GM ipsw file on his computer, but we wanted to see if he could just restore his phone via iTunes.
