Wow. My guess was 5 or 6.

Who's left? COL, TBL, CAR and CGY? Or substitute NYR or TOR for TBL?

Can someone please post the top 10?

Top 10 so far. Florida, Colorado, Toronto, and Calgary still remain.

10. Edmonton Oilers

9. Pittsburgh Penguins

8. Carolina Hurricanes

7. Tampa Bay Lightning

6. Boston Bruins

5. Minnesota Wild

CAR seems way too low, TBL too. I would switch them with BOS and MIN.

And I think FLA is way too high. Put CAR in the top 4, and slide FLA somewhere in the 5-8 range.

Also, where the hell is NYR?

Mine:
1) COL
2) CAR
3) TOR
4) CGY
5) NYR
6) TBL
7) FLA
8) MIN
9) EDM
10) STL / BOS

Tampa should be #2 IMO. Next to Colorado they are still the team to beat... I don't think Minnesota should even be in the top 10... that one is weird to me.

Wild at 5 is generous . Calgary top 4 is probably generous too. 6-7 would be fair given the changes and unknowns

MIN is a solid team. They finished with 113 pts last year, 5th overall, 2 ahead of CGY.

Fair enough. I should've looked back at that... I just don't see the Wild being legit contenders, especially considering the amount of dead cap they have.

I think these rankings are based purely on Dom Luszczyszyn's model (i.e., purely analytical). It's a neat idea but even he will admit it has its drawbacks.

I agree I don't see why Minnesota is a top 10 team. They lost Fiala and didn't really replace him. Probably weren't a top 5 team before losing their 2nd leading scorer. Fleury is also 37 now so I can't see him being the reason they oved into the top 5

I think these rankings are flawed. Hope I’m being too pessimistic, but I don’t see the Flames as having improved over last year - more likely a bit weaker on offence, and without Kylington and a fully recovered Tanev, probably a weaker defense.

Edmonton shouldn’t be in the top 10. They’re no good.

Predictions come and go, but one one scientific equation that is constant in the natural world is E=NG.

They state in the article when healthy Carolina is top 5, but they subtracted points over health - ie they expect Pacioretty to lose man games to injury, and they lose points for lacking star power. They rank Carolina higher in stanley cup chance than their rank would suggest at 7% which is 6th best.

As for Florida the models love Tkachuk. All these analytics guys - Dom JFresh EvolvingHockey etc have him as a Selke candidate. Jfresh at least acknowledges that his model may give him a disproportionate amount of credit for work that Lindholm did

The Rangers are not a top 10 team, they got out chanced and outplayed and made the playoffs because of an all time performance by their goalie.
