Sock might not even get to the 3rd round, he's been pretty terrible this year.

Tsitsipas/Thiem is a potential 2nd round match.
Goffin, Monfils, Ferrer, Mannarino, Verdasco all in the bottom half.
Nadal only has DelPo or Cilic to worry about in the semis.

As if what will be the most boring event of the year weren't boring enough. They really need to start going FIFA and rigging the draws so we get some balance.

I believe this is known as the Soderling round. Interesting how it lines up, Denis couldn't do it, could he?

That has to be up there with the 1980 Miracle on Ice for greatest upset in sports history no?
Dennis is pretty much the only threat to Nadal until the finals and I think Dennis may take a set but I don't see him doing enough to win 3 sets off Nadal. Crazier things have happened tho.

Could have been worse but I would give him almost zero chance of advancing against a guy like this on clay. Stranger things have happened but at this point I just hope he comes out of the match healthy and ready to hit the grass.
Definitely feel for Shapo having to run into the unstoppable force in the 4th round that is Nadal on clay. I guess making it that far on your worst surface, this early in your career would be a feat in itself.....maybe Rafa is due for a dud after so many lights out performances here haha.

Denis should drop the "valov" from his surname for a couple of weeks and just go with Denis Shapo at the French Open. The French fans would eat it up.

Darn, Peter Polansky fails to qualify losing two straight tie-breakers in his final qualifying match. Bianca is down a set and tied 3-3 in the second set, but rain has suspended play.
Edit: Peter could still make the main draw as a lucky loser.

Three Canadians in the French Open men's draw as Peter Polansky does make it in as a lucky loser.

Unfortunately, Bianca Andreescu lost her final qualifying match so there are no Canadian women in the singles draw. Gaby Dabrowski will be flying the Maple Leaf in women's doubles and mixed doubles.

Unfortunate draw for Denis, as he gets Nadal in the fourth round if he makes it past Sock in the third. Obviously assuming no upsets. On the other hand, a fourth round appearance would actually be a pretty damn good result, I think.

I mean we must remember that Soderling before the injuries was a very good player. So while it was perhaps shocking at the time, Soderling did become a top 5 player over a couple years. I would still say upsets like Stakhovsky over Federer, Darcis over Nadal and Istomin over Djokovic are more shocking since those guys never amounted to anything. I'd also say the biggest tennis upset in recent history is probably Serena losing to Virginie Razzano. Remember her?

Serena losing to Vinci in the Us Open semifinal. With Serena going for the calendar grand slam.
