Let's just do a single Canada Vs The World game and call it a day.

I think you're onto something here, with a very minor tweak.

Canada 1
Canada 2
US
Russia
Sweden
Finland
Europe
World U23

8 teams. I'm all about this. Hockey is a great international event but struggles because it's so geographically niche. It needs to stack the deck in its own favor a bit to create some super teams. If 30 countries played a lot of hockey, that would be one thing. They don't. 10 countries do, and that number's not going to get significantly bigger any time soon, regardless of Olympic participation.

The 'Come at me, bro' Series.

At this point, one of the few things I'm really interested in seeing is Canada vs the World in a 7-game series. I think they still win, but I want to prove it.

I think it's time to reunite Czechoslovakia for the sake of them having a good hockey team again. Clearly going their separate ways was a huge mistake. They can call it the Velvet Atonement.

I would rather have 6 teams. Canada, USA, Russia, Europe, Sweden and an U23 team (probably international.)

I think that'd be an insane tournament, but I feel like Finland deserves to stand on its own merit.

However, Finnish goalies with the rest of Europe makes that team a threat to win it all.

Hockey needs to embrace these little gimmicks. They're just for fun anyway.

outside of this tournament, the Finns have been pretty good on the international stage, have they not?

they've medaled in the last 3 olympics for sure. Won gold at the Worlds in 2011 and were silver in 2014 and 2016.

They had a bad tournament, but dropping them out of it because of it is ridiculous.

The Finns are good in international competitions but it seems as though the NHL dominated lineup hurts them (as in this past tournament.) In the international tournaments they have a roster which is made up of significantly more KHL and players from European teams.

So, the Canadian Cage Match Cup?

They had exactly one KHL player in the lineup against Russia, so let's not overstate things. I guess Aho and Laine are considered Euro players since they're only moving to NA this fall.

In the previous NHL tournament they got silver, although it was some time ago of course.

Anybody know if the new tracking data is available anywhere? I hope the public gets access to it.

I really like this format. The two "gimmick teams" are the most interesting thing about the tournament.

The change I'd like to see is to spread it around more. No need for every game to be in Toronto.

You need 8 teams. And why not have a Czech team?

Why do you "need" 8 teams? They had 6 during the Canada Cup days

Also, if we keep the Czech's off of Europe and make it 7, who's team 8? North America again, even though Canada and the States already have teams? A team like Switzerland or Germany so they can get absolutely murdered and make Team Europe weaker in the process?

Team Finland has 5 medals from the last 6 Olympics, more than any other country, including Canada. 6 medals in the last 8. Plus they made the final in the previous World Cup.

Finland never wins, but they've been very consistently competitive. Every country has their bad years and bad stretches.
