No salary cap once playoffs start. LA would be better off hanging onto him until the offseason. Could be a useful player once playoffs start IMO (assuming they make it).

The Richards ship sailed a while ago. And I'd rather they took on a bad contract for a guy they could actually use - even Phaneuf.

They don't save much by having down in the AHL right now. Calling him now or playoffs make little difference.

I do not really think the Flames Owners want to bring in a bunch of dead salary. In fact i have heard that to be the case.
Most likely it would have to be something extremely good for them to eat millions of dollars of dead money.
