Yeah, Tkachuk is criminally under appreciated by some people around here. I get that he negotiated the Flames into a tough position, but he has been pretty great for us. Last season was not the greatest for most of the team, but he was far from the biggest issue. If I had to pick a forward to build around, it would be between him and Lindholm. I think it is pretty likely his motive is to leave after this QO year though. I would love to be wrong, but the warning signs seem hard to ignore.
I have no doubt he will continue to play hard the whole time he is with the Flames, but if there is any indication that he doesn't want to negotiate before his QO is due, then he needs to be traded to maximize the return.

I like the Vancouver and New Jersey trade ideas.
Podkolzin and Kent Johnson? Yuuuuuup.
Holtz and Kent Johnson?? Heeeyyyuuuuuup.
Yeah, I'd take Kent Johnson at 4 as well. Either way, you're getting 2 top line potential players for one. Under cost control for 5 to 10 years. Sold. Chucky don't wanna be here? so long and thanks for all the fish.

He plays on the second line of a bubble team and puts up second line numbers. This isn't as outlandish as you make it sound.

Well since he has only played essentially 2 full seasons and one of them being his rookie season, I think we excuse the the fact that he’s only scored more than 61 points once. There’s no doubt in my mind Matthew is a 1st line player. He’s been a catalyst on 2 of the best lines I’ve seen since 2019, Tkachuk-Backlund-Mangiapane and Tkachuk-Lindholm-Gaudreau. Coincidence? I think not.
He’s easily the best player on the team from below the hashmarks,l. He’s extremely reliable at absorbing contact and finding the right outlets or chipping the puck out of the zone. He draws a lot of powerplays, throws the opposition off their game and no one is a better net front presence on the team. Anyone who watches Matthew closely will see that he’s more than just points.
Lastly, his playoff numbers certainly don’t look impressive. But his line was easily the best performing line in the Flames’ 2020 playoffs. In my opinion, they’re were the main reason they easily dispatched the Jets and when he went down with his injury, the team really felt it. Dude is easily a top line player.

Ugh, for a team desperate to just be a playoff team at any cost, it's pretty interesting that they are on the verge of losing the second player that fits the 'win now' coach brought in's mold of a player (Bennett being the first).
I'm starting to hate the sutter hire. This team shouldn't be making moves to try to compete now. A full teardown and rebuild seems so frigin obvious, outside of bringing sutter in.

A lot of this Tkachuk talk is ridiculous. Talk of Tarasenko shouldn’t even be considered a realistic scenario.
If he wants out, I would imagine the return would be similar to the Hamilton trade. If the flames are trading Tkachuk, the Flames will be looking to get one or two cost controlled assets back.
For example and assuming the Islanders get eliminated here in the next few days, I would think a trade involving Tkachuk for Beauvillier & Walhstrom might be more along the lines of what we should expect.

While I don’t want to trade Tkachuk unless it’s a center coming back , I could see NY rangers being interested. They have publicly stated they they are sick of being pushed around.

If Tkachuck is on the trade block, there will be a lot of teams interested. I'm just worried that with Sutter being there, they're still in the "win now at all costs" mode and will take a bunch of spare parts.

I don't like hearing this, whether it's true or not. It might scare off some teams who are concerned about signing him long term.

He's alluding to hearing murmurs around the league. Where it's vague is where the line between rumour and speculation.
Would tkachuk like to play in his home town?
Is he unhappy in cgy?
Does he want a trade?
Is the team exploring a trade, perhaps for tarasenko+?
All pretty vague.

He said he heard it from multiple separate people around the team (I think he may have mentioned former players). O'Brien has since doubled down on his claim on his twitter. Apparently he did break a trade during this past trade deadline.
But he also couldn't pronounce "Tkachuk" correctly. And he suggested that the Flames would take Tarasenko back. And I don't think that makes a lot of sense.
Boomer said he wasn't even going to mention it, but a bunch of fans were texting in.

Ex players will say things on podcasts in an attempt to be relevant.
Basically they said do not expect a formal trade request coming in anytime soon

SOB was trying to figure out how St. Louis could trade Tarasenko in response to a St. Louis fan's question.
He brought up Tkachuk because he heard that Tkachuk wanted to be in St. Louis... duh (of course he does).
The whole basis though is how does St. Louis get rid of Tarasenko, not how does Calgary trade Tkachuk because he is unhappy.

SOB says he heard the Tkachuk rumors from players in the league he has contact with. He also mentioned he doesn't start rumors as this is something he's legit heard. I imagine there's some truth to the fact that Tkachuk would like to play in St. Louis but at this stage impossible to know if he's discussed this with the Flames. He's going to be free to sign with them in two years and this is the reality of American born players on Canadian teams as Matthews will likely be leaving the Leafs the moment his contract expires as well.
