The Habs have no need to offload Anderson and would probably like him in the postseason.
Coleman & Kadri for either:
-Hage + 2026 1st
-Zharovsky (W/C) + Engstrom (LD) & 2026 1st
We can throw retention or some depth prospects to even it out.

Don't get me wrong - he's a strong prospect with a good skillset, but he's 3rd in scoring on Michigan, and doesn't even rank in the top three in faceoffs taken on that team. Projecting him as a 1st line center in the NHL is a massive, massive stretch at this point.
Should he really be valued much differently than a prospect like Calum Ritchie who was only a partial piece in the Brock Nelson trade or is it just media and fan biases that boost his value?
|
There always seems to be a desire to over-prioritize or glazing other teams prospects.
Sometimes it's justified, other times it's just sad.
I'm hard on the stance that picks are generally better, because we can then draft our own. We need to keep filling that pipe.
Anyone remember the years of Chris Stewart desire?
I genuinely don't want any prospects from Toronto, as an example, ever. I'm cautious on any Eastern based teams because the media does nothing but glaze them.

Good news is Hage is probably the last prospect they trade.
So don't lose sleep over it.

yep it should really be focused on being on the upswing during that time which is why this year is important. If this team is still debating moving Kadri next year or the year after you are just delaying.

Nobody trades their top prospect for a rental, let alone a mediocre one.
Well, except for hockey forums

Count me in on happy we didn't pull Hague as our major piece with VGK. I'd assume it would have been Hague + 2027 1st, and then we'd have Bahl and Hague as bottom-4 LHD.
...would have supressed Kuznetsov as well.
|
I wouldnt of hated it. Hague is pretty young still.
I would rather do picks/prospects focused deal but its been the MO of this club to get younger roster players in these deals.

I do think Conroy will get a really good return for Kadri. Mainly because I think the desire/urgency to trade him is likely pretty low. And he has a few years on his contract so there is little pressure for Conroy to get the deal done this season.
That’s not to say I don’t think Conroy will trade him this season - I do think/hope he will. It’s just that it will take a really good offer for Conroy to pull the trigger. All it takes is the right team to step up like Colorado did with Nelson last year.

So if you are a GM, who would you trade for O’rielly or Kadri?

It’s too bad the Hurricanes are on Kadri’s NT list. At least I’m pretty sure that was rumoured. They have good prospects/young players and they have lots of picks (including two first round picks) in the upcoming draft. They could put together a really competitive package for Kadri IMO.

Are these actions by Vancouver and Nashville not what Calgary did in 2023-24 with Tanev, Hanifin, Markstrom, Toffoli, Lindholm, Mangiapane, and Zadorov?
So we are actually two years ahead of them?

So wait the Avs didn’t trade Ritchie for an expiring contract? There was no extension as part of the Nelson deal.
Anyways we are talking about Kadri who is not a rental

It's pretty situational, but honestly probably O'Reilly, mainly due to contract.
O'reilly for 2 years at 4 million, done when he's 36.
Kadri for 4 years at 7 million, done when he's 39.
Kadri is more dynamic offensively, drives play and can carry a line. O'Reilly can produce but he's more known as a two-way guy.
I think it's close though. Ignoring contract I take Kadri.

Hague turns 27 next week and is only 2 years younger than Andersson. He is also not a very good defenseman. He is fine if he is in your bottom pairing, but if he is playing higher than that in your lineup you are in trouble.
I can see why Conroy decided to not go down that road.

Hopefully part of the “really good offer” is management’s understanding that trading Kadri is also likely a McKenna, Verhoeff or a Stenberg

From what was said, Hague was the one that shut it down as he didn't want to sign here.
but yeah as a stop gap he would have been fine. I do hope there would of been more coming.

This is correct. The deal was agreed to but Hague wouldn't sign here.
