I flew over it late last year. That's too bad.

Should keep a lot of birds from meeting a horrible death.
I fully expect that site to be repowered with PV panels. They already have a robust grid connection at that location.

No, it's not. Typical with a known design is about the same as any other major energy project from discovery to delivery, often faster. 40% of operating reactors worldwide were built in 6 years or less, 80% are done in 10 or less. Average is about 7. It's the problematic 20% that people focus on and are obsessed with as if they are the norm.
Longer projects are mostly a reflection of disputes which are ideological, political or sharing property rights. Note that I place poor project choices, like selecting a first of a kind technology and initiating work before engineering is complete, in the "political" bucket here.
The bottom line is that they have indisputably high EROI ratios using a system that extracts only 3% of the potential of the fuel. We are full on morons that deserve everything that is coming to us as a species if we continue to come up with fancy reasons to not use them.

So eerie being in that environment. The whole thing had a strange aura to it, a spectacle to behold, but it was nothing more than a high impact, poorly performing gas plant in the end.

And a lot of the electrical that needs to be run to connect the panels is already in place as well. Sounds like a non-brainer to get switched to normal solar ASAP.

Reading the article, depending on where you were driving/flying, it might not be the same installation you are thinking of, I know there is a huge Photo voltaic field near Boulder, that I have seen form the highway, and looking at the map, there are 2 other PV fields right beside this one near Primm. It seems this field was not PV, it was actually mirrors aiming solar radiation to boil water and drive steam turbines.
I'm not familiar with that technology, but seemingly less proven than PV.
This seems to be as much a story of an unsuccessful science project, as an upended renewables project.

It is the one that I am think of and have seen which is west of I15 just inside California. It is a unique and distinctive setup to see. I don't know if this is failed technology because if I'm not mistaken this is modeled after project built in Spain a long time ago which, if I'm not mistaken, are working pretty well.

You are very mistaken. In your post with the article you said you drive past this facility many times between Palm Springs and LA. Now you are saying that it's on I15.

In general. Anyone who disagrees with progressive socialist policies is labelled a NAZI.
The irony being the NAZI’s were actually Germany’s socialist party at the time.

I would guess 10 years. Betting a big part of that would be the regulatory application.

He said driving between Las Vegas and Palm Springs/LA, which means driving on the I-15 at the Nevada/California border which goes right past the facility.

Crash and Bang Winger

One thing that wiggles in my brain for nuclear construction and other capital projects like the over budgeted waste water projects in Vancouver is labour. The quality control expected of labour has gone up immensely. We don't really have enough skilled labour to man these jobs.
How are we going to be able to build the second phase of LNG Canada and also build pipelines and also take care of existing maintenance of various facilities and other major infrastructure projects in the future(including nukes) if we really do not have enough skilled trades to handle these projects and the stringent QC that goes along with it.
It's easy for PP to say that we will build a military base up north but who is gonna build it in a timely matter with considerations of the labour it will take for the actual construction.
Forgive me I'm kinda rambling.

Should be removed from this thread, but anyone who claims Nazis were the socialist party strictly because of the party name makes very clear their level of knowledge on the issue

Thankfully we don’t have to judge him on the one post alone, as he’s made many many posts that confirm his level of knowledge on just about any subject to be very low.
