Darn. I really thought the Flames would retain Brodie. I don’t know if there’s a player out there that we can get and that can replace him. Vatanen is not as good. Barrie has really good offence but gives it all back and then some defensively. Stetcher and Hamonic are not top 4 defenceman. We’re not getting Pietro, the VGK are.
I think the Flames might need to find a RHD in a trade. Hopefully they can do it.

Hypothetically speaking, would you prefer:
4 line: XXX - Ryan - XXX
1 defence: Giordano - Barrie
or:
4 line: XXX - Gawdin - XXX
1 defence: Giordano - Pietrangelo
(In a world where Pietrangelo signs for $3.5M/season more than Barrie)

Valimaki- Kyllington
+ 2 extras
Assume Mang costs 3M, the 2 extras are league min and our 4th line wings are league min.
That leaves 10M - 6M = 4M for a RD.
----------------------
Alternate option 1:
Sign Hall (+8M)
Trade Johnny for a 2.75M young top 4. If you find a way to dump Ryan, you can sign a 1M center and get a 4.75M young RD coming back.
Alternate option 2:
Sign Pietrangelo (+8M)
Trade Johnny and Ryan for 2 young Wingers
Alternate option 3:
Sign vaatanen or similar for 4M.
Option 4:
Sign toffoli or similar 4M and move one of our forwards for a 4D
Alternative 5:
Johnny + Picks for a package that bring back a top 6 winger or two and a top 4D for a combined cost of less than 10M coming back.
Options 1,2&5 are the only ones that move the needle on changing the team from continuing to be middle of the road.
|
Options 6: Move Monahan for RHD and sign Toffoli

Not to be rude but your lackadaisical rounding bothers me when every 100k counts lol
The Flames currently have 10.9 million in cap space. Kylington will get the same contract (730k) so that leaves 10.17 for the rest. I think Maniapane gets closer to 2.5 per, which would be 7.67 million. 4 entry level players would cost 2.1 million combined, so that would then leave 5.57 for a RHD (or 5.07 if Mangiapane take 3), not 4 million.

Fair enough...but I rounded a bit conservatively because the flames probably dont want to go into the season with $0 cap space.

With all the goalies available, most teams would rather sign a guy like Greiss to a 1 year deal that give up assets for BSD.

Is this intended to be a serious response?
Gus had one flukey season. Barrie has averaged 49 points a season over the past 6 years and defensively, Gus makes Barrie look like Scott Stevens.
Those two aren't even in the same damn conversation.

Are there any rumors of Edmonton getting Fleury? Seems like that makes sense at this point. Crawford can't be relied on at this point in his career, and neither can Smith, so Fleury, even though a smaller risk seems like the logical choice by default. Can't waste those prime years of McDavid with too much uncertainty on the back end. I wonder how both teams could make it work if LV is getting Pietrangelo? Gives Edmonton some clout, no?

It doesn't make sense because the Oilers have no cap left. Even Bear is somewhat difficult to sign now.

You definitely go with the option that includes Pietrangelo. It would not be a savings or 3.5 million if you got rid of Ryan though, as the replacement player for him would have to make league minimum.

Good point. I guess many teams wants a dance partner to take on a bad contract, so there must be something going on there because you really can't go in with that risk in goal.

Pagnotta stated the Bruins offered Hall a short term deal.
Hoping the Flames went in there with a 6-7 year deal and have a Johnny trade for cap space and a Dman lined up.
Trade Johnny and Ryan for Risto and Cozens
Sign Hall

The fact that the Bruins presented a short term deal gives me some hope. I really hope Tree gets in there and we have an awesome Saturday after an awesome Friday.

Feels like Boston needs to land one of Hall or Pietrangelo. If they sign AP I would think they would move Carlo. Any chance the Bruins sign AP then the Flames and B’s make a Johnny+Kylington for Debrusk+McAvoy? Flames then sign Hall

Every like half hour I go back and forth thinking the Flames are definitely in on Hall(Maybe even a frontrunner!) to the pretty much the opposite, haha.
Wish we knew for sure, but it's pretty quiet when it comes to Hall and the teams interested. Have the Flames been mentioned even at all? Someone said Friedman mentioned the Flames this morning, but I can't find it.

I reckon the odds of the Bruins trading McAvoy is roughly nil.

Usually Treliving tells us that he has other offers out there that they are waiting to hear back on. Have there been any such comments this time around?
