I predict that Aho will score from a rebound. Then Laine in the final minute.

A little sad to find out that the worst team in the tournament is actually the worst team, but not surprising.

However I do think they'll play the third period super hard. Something might come out of it. Perhaps the second goal of the tournament!
As you know, tough to win picking from a population of 5 million people.
Still a very impressive hockey country, with a lot of elite young players being developed.
Quite remarkable, actually.

I thought Barkov would look better than he has in this tournament. At this point, I think Aho has played better than him.

The future looks better for sure. Looking at skaters, the quality of the developing players is probably higher than ever before. There's just a huge generation gap right now.

But they always have a less talented lineup and they often out-perform that, so you're hoping for that to happen even if the odds are against them.

Well, that should pretty much do it. Shame for the kids, they had a great tourney and still didn't advance.

I guess Johnny's contract rumours will heat up even more now.

I imagine some of the players are a little pissed the coaching staff "decided it was best" to not tell them they had to win in regulation to guarantee they would advance.

I may be wrong, but I don't think a regulation win guaranteed them through either?

Would have had the same points as Sweden and held the tie break in head to head and goal differential so they would have moved on.

I don't see how it made a difference. They went all out to win. And surely they would've known as only two teams could go through.

That said, I'd have told them.

A regulation win would have created a 3 way tie with a Russia victory over Finland. Team North America would have been first because of the better GF/GA differential no matter the result of the Russia-Finland Result

Edit: Nevermind, beaten to it.

In this format you could win 1 and lose 2 and still advance. You can also win 2 and lose 1 and not advance, which is what happened to NA unfortunately.

I really hate watching Russia. I don't really know why but I hate watching them. Considering all the high level individual talent they can't play an exciting game as a collective.

I feel bad for the kids for not making it out of the round robin. I was hoping to see Canada vs NA.

I get that it adds pressure, but maybe when it's 3-3 you give them the heads up so they're not just playing for overtime where I would assume most of the players thought they would had the advantage.

In the grand scheme it doesn't matter, but imagine if one of the bigger nations coaching staff made that decision in the Olympics, it would definitely be analyzed if the result was the same as it was North America

they're adults! We're not even playing and we can figure out that they would have been first if they won in regulations. It's just math.

unless they're being sequestered like Big Brother and watch other games

With Team NA out I have pretty much zero interest in the rest of the tournament.

Fun while it lasted, I guess.
