It made sense, as we had to pick someone. It came down to who I'd think might attempt a night kill against me. Plus I literally had no clue what I was doing, never even heard of this type of game before.

Only thing is when you said you'd give us advance notice of sign up in the secret thread, I thought you meant you'd give current members advance warning not all of CP, lol!
I think you'll have 50 or more people waiting at 1 pm to sign up. Hopefully I make it!

Hah, well...that was not my intention when I mentioned it earlier. It's only the first game, so it's still too early to start playing favourites. There's probably a good amount of people who had no idea what this was and now want to play, and it would be unfair to limit their ability to join in the next one.

I'd love to play this again, it was a lot of fun, even though I was killed because you're all racist against German action hero's.
I didn't use my night ability, because I had no clue how to use it, next time I play I'll make sure I do my due dilligance.
But hats off to Mazrim for running this, it was exceptionally fun.

Thank you so much for taking the time to organize and host this game for us Mazrim! We all really appreciate it!
I've been on this forum absolutely everyday for the last 5 years, but I'm very much a lurker and shy. I never played hockey growing up so I basically listen and read all the FOI threads but never really contribute much. I regularly catch myself replying to posts in Off-topic section and deleting the text before I can post. This game really made me feel part of calgarypuck! Definitely one of my favorite cp moments.

I had you six bra........just too late.
Well holy ####, I sucked at that game. I think the CC lynching was the only thing I got right (just at the wrong time, was too late to save him).
Going in I thought my "power" to speak to Wood was useless, but it turns out I was able to ride Wood's coat tails.
In hindsight, I should have read more about the game on line.
I hope to play again, and this time have some background knowledge about the game (maybe read up on it).
Mazrim, I think you did a kick ass job on this game, and want to thank you.

That was a blast, thanks for running it Mazrim!
I had some moments of brilliance and moments of stupidity, but in retrospect I'm really glad I left the game when I did, I'm not sure the players would have come to the right conclusion with me in there.
I'll need to sit out the next cycle or two. It's impossible for me to play without getting entirely caught up in it and I need my life back for a bit before playing again. But I'll definitely be following along.

Looking forward to the next game and I hope I can get in before the limit is reached. I sure learned alot in a short time, and thoroughly enjoyed myself.
Mazrim your hard work is very much appreciated by myself and everyone involved.
Congrats to the players on the win.
Octothorpe I am sure your employer will enjoy your return to being productive in the workforce again. (joking)

I sincerely think that if the interest is there, the next game should be all new people.

I definately lurked in this thread a lot and would love to get in on the next round.
My one thought on Active Stick on the last day should have pushed the logic of the only way we can lose today is if UCB and Wood are the assisins and we don't vote them out. Why would there be two Mason groups.
Octothorpes previous days logic could have been used quite well.

I think Mazrim having introduced this game to this forum, he is best equipped to determine how to proceed whether its with new players or or a mix or otherwise. And I'd say he's earned his stripes as CP Gamemaster.
I'd certainly be OK not playing the next game if its new people, or even sitting out if its a mix of old and new, as watching is also strangely fun. I'd also be happy to participate. There would be a certain charm to having whole new participants involved.

I meant new as in people who missed out this time around. Though having it be new players to help them get caught up to speed isn't a bad idea either.

Since you guys all seem to be willing to sit out for new players, how about you hold out a day on signing up for the new one? If new players want in, they'll probably sign up in the first 24 hours. If there are open spots still, sign up then. How does that sound?

Here are the role PMs. Just a side note...I am a technical writer, not a creative one, so if you noticed my writing style being bland or stilted in these PMs or in the flavour, there you go!
Hidden Abilities mean they could not be discerned by tracking. They would be able to see them target someone, but not what the ability was if it was hidden.
Mafia / SK Role PMs:

Negotiating is your strong suit, but eliminating the competition is your highest priority and you’ll do whatever it takes to make this happen. You possess the following abilities to help achieve your goals:
Conflict Resolution: Use your contacts to eliminate the opposition during the night. This is your standard nightkill.
Executive Order: You have the ability to veto other’s thoughts when making crucial decisions, allowing your nightkills to penetrate through protections (such as doctors). However, this will not harm something like a bulletproof. This is a bonus ability added onto your normal nightkill. You can only use one bonus ability on your nightkill per night.
Stalling Tactics: When things aren’t going your way, stall until the right answer hits you. You can opt to poison a target instead of outright killing them, and they will live through one more day before dying the next night. This is a bonus ability added onto your normal nightkill. You can only use one bonus ability on your nightkill per night.
Smooth Talker (Hidden Ability): You are both looked up to and despised. No one can deny your ability to talk yourself out of any situation, though. You will appear aligned with the Players under any circumstances. (If you are lynched, you will still flip as NHL.)
Protective Services (Hidden Ability): Being the commissioner grants you special protection from those who disagree with how you do things. The only way you can die is by being lynched.
You also know that Phil Kessel is not in the game and can be used as a fake claim to protect your identity.
You will be working with your fellow NHL employees Bill Daly (HalifaxDrunk), Colin Campbell (Aeneas), Brendan Shanahan (Timbo) and Sidney Crosby (Drake). You may all talk to each other outside the thread at any time through the Quicktopic link at the bottom of this PM. Everyone is encouraged to submit their own night actions, but the highest listed living member is responsible for sending me any nightkill targets (in addition to deciding who will be performing the kill each night). They may also modify the night actions of anyone on the team at their discretion.
You are a member of the NHL and win when your team achieves unassailable dominance over the league (even if you lose your life in the process).

You will do whatever it takes to make sure the NHL comes out on top of the Players in this dispute. Being the deputy commissioner allows you to stay under the radar. You possess a number of abilities to help achieve your goals:
Deputy Duty: Take control of the situation! Your target will be terminated from the game. This is your standard nightkill.
The following abilities are one-use only. You may use one of them per night. Choose when to use them wisely!
Contract Review (Hidden Ability): Use your superior skills at analysing legal documents to peer at your target’s contract and see what role they play.
Contract Voided (Hidden Ability): Find a loophole in a contract to make a target unable to perform their night actions (if they have any).
Wiretap (Hidden Ability): Send out your surveillance team to learn what was done to a target during the night. You will be unable to receive information on who performed these actions, however.
Quiet Time (Hidden Ability): Sometimes you just need to let the commissioner do all the talking. Return to your office for the night. Any and all actions targeting you will fail. You will not be able to use your nightkill, either.
You also know that Jonathan Toews is not in the game and can be used as a fake claim to protect your identity.

Old Boss: Once, you were the Sheriff of the NHL. Your skills haven’t deteriorated since you handed that job off. Your target will be sent packing to their grave. This is your standard nightkill.
Wrongful Accusation (Hidden Ability): Sometimes, things aren’t fair. Not everyone understands how you arrive at your decisions, but that doesn’t stop you from making a target appear as guilty to any scans they may have on them that night.
Wheel of Justice (Hidden Ability): Spin the wheel of justice again for old time’s sake. All actions taken by your target that night (should they have any) will target a different player of your choice.
You also know that Erik Karlsson is not in the game and can be used as a fake claim to protect your identity.

You will do whatever it takes to make sure the NHL comes out on top in this dispute. You possess the following abilities to help achieve your goals:
As the Video Clearly Shows...: Suspend a player for misconduct, permanently. This is your standard nightkill.
Temporary Relocation (Hidden Ability): As a player you made yourself known on the ice. Put that physical skill to use and force two targets to switch places. Any actions done on the switched target will affect the other. However, since you are now retired from playing, you can only perform this action three times during the game.

You’ve already been through a bitter lockout in the past, and you have no desire to go through another potentially devastating lockout now. Secretly, you decided to assist the NHL in eliminating the Players who are, in your mind, in the way of a smooth running league. The following abilities are available to you to help achieve your goals:
Devan Dark Returns: While the Guardian Project is a sore spot for the NHL, you were one of the few that thought it was cool! The league spent millions on special technology to project the images of the Guardians and their enemies onto the ice, but it was never used. With a sizable amount of your sponsorship dollars at work, you were able to make that projection a physical manifestation. Send him to do your dirty work and end the life of someone who never believed. This is your standard nightkill.
Injury Magnet (Hidden Ability): Being the best means you get more attention on the ice. Unfortunately this has lead to a number of injuries that have slowed you down, but now you are extremely knowledgeable about medical science. Stick a target into the GyroStim machine used to correct concussions for the night to prevent a target from completing their night actions (if they have any).
Canned Responses (Hidden Ability): You’ve always tried your best to go about leading a quiet private life. There’s always a generic answer for everything to defuse any questions that may pry a little too much. Just gotta play our game, put pucks on net, battle hard...anyway, one night during the game, you can prevent anyone from knowing the role or alignment of the player that was nightkilled.
You also know that John Tavares is not in the game and can be used as a fake claim to protect your identity.

As negotiations have fallen apart, you realize this is the perfect opportunity to create a permanent rift between the groups and begin expansion of the KHL into North America. Your task will be difficult, but you will disguise yourself and infiltrate the lockout to begin dismantling the National Hockey League. You possess the following abilities to help achieve your goals:
Lazarus Program: With your massive wealth you have funded a small hidden group of scientists to bring a dead target temporarily to life and interrogate them for information, regardless of alignment or cause of death. You will know by morning if you were successful in raising your target. Conversations will take place in a Quicktopic link I provide to both you and the your target, and you will have one real time day to ask questions to the person before I close the topic. The Lazarus Program is still under development however, so your attempt to contact the dead will fail after 3 uses. Choose your targets wisely!
Military Backup (Hidden Ability): Russia protects its best assets, and you are no exception. Thanks to the Military protection you are offered for being a former member of the KGB, the only way you can die is by being lynched.
Charismatic Leadership (Hidden Ability): You rose to the top by being an inspiring presence to others. You can give off a false impression that will trick the best. You will appear aligned with the Players under any circumstances. (If you are lynched, you will still flip as KHL.)
Coded Transmission (Hidden Ability): Back in the days of the KGB, you were able to send secret messages to operatives without the enemy discovering you. You’ve dug out the old equipment to take with you and can send a secret message to any player of your choosing. The message will appear in quotes, so you can't use this to try to make someone think they're receiving an official PM from me, but anything is generally fair game as long as it doesn't break any rules. Messages can be 30 words at most and are subject to approval. Note that your message may not outright name any players or otherwise identify any players in any way.
Protecting Investments (Hidden Ability): Your experience working with banks has shown you the importance of protecting yourself. Someone is bound to try to take what is rightfully yours. You are well trained in the use of stealth and can shoot a target every night. You will not be seen while doing this.
You also know that Anze Kopitar is not in the game and can be used as a fake claim to protect your identity.
You are a self-aligned KHL serial killer and win when you are the only player left alive. Once it's just you and one other player remaining, you will automatically shoot them and claim sole victory, regardless of their role or alignment.
