More details about the contract coming out... looks like 5 years / 120 million

I bet Lee would have done 5 / 80, or 5 / 85 last season.

No doubt. The Yankees wouldn't have been involved to overly inflate the price.

They have been looking at him for weeks. Posada will likely DH the majority of the time this coming season. Cervelli is considered too weak offensively. Montero is supposed to have a power bat, but may not be ready defensively.

Yankees just signed Mark Prior to a minor league contract.
They just need to re-sign Kerry Wood now!

Hard to say. Somewhere the Phillies decided who cares about the luxury tax lets go and get some players. Last year with the Halladay thing they kept going on about how they needed money from the Jays to make up the differenct in Halladay and Lee's salary so they wouldn't pay luxury tax.

12 months later they've added Lee for more money than Halladay makes as well as taking on Roy Oswalt.

That's what losing does. A World Championship, followed by a World Series loss followed by a semifinal loss. They're pushing harder.

I heard on MLB Radio that Houston is on for $11 million of Oswalt's $16 million this season and therefore the Phils are under the luxury tax threshold.

A Little OT - just finished watching Game 7 of the 1960 World Series on MLB network. They found a complete recording of the game in Bing Crosby's vault and aired it in it's entirety tonight. Lots of players from both teams providing commentary - just an awesome watch. Man I wish I could have watched Mickey Mantle play on a daily basis - what a talent!!!

One of the greats passed away tonight, Bob Feller. First MLB player to enlist for WWII, organizer of games between the majors and Negro League, and one of the best ever to pitch:

Makes one wonder if this is the writing on the wall for Papelbon... It may not happen this offseason, but one has to wonder if Jenks isn't coming in to fill a future hole. Regardless this team is loaded for bear, with Papelbon, Jenks and Bard coming outta the pen, the starting staff is filthy if Beckett can somewhat regain form, and that lineup is some kinda good.

Flick - any word on the A's and what they have for irons in the fire? That Willingham pick up looks really good, I like the way their outfield has shaped up through this off-season. If they could just land a Beltre (under the assumption he has a similar year to last), that is a decent enough lineup, couple with their staff - could make some noise in the West.

The Willingham deal is one that has been on and off for awhile. The A's were really close at last July's trade deadline to picking him up. The A's have walked away from Beltre but I guess you never know what will happen. If they could land Beltre or one more bat, they would be in a great position to contend in the division. My gut tells me Beane is pretty much done unless he has another trade in the works, which he might as he has 4 starting outfielders now.

Two very nice pick ups for the Padres, solidifies the middle of their infield with two very reliable players. Dealing with a low budget, I like the moves the Padres have made - very young (outside of O-dawg) and very athletic. Should prove to pay off in spades, as Petco is a massive ballpark with a lot of green to cover in the outfield.

As usual though, they are missing a couple of bats in the middle of the order, and Chase Headley as your #4 hitter is never a good sign.

Greinke is off to the Brewers. The Royals get Alcides Escobar, Lorenzo Cain, and 2 pitching prospects. Yuniesky Escobar also goes to the Brewers. Cain has been considered the Brewers top prospect for over a year now.

Interesting deal. I find it hilarious that last week Lawrie was regarded as the best prospect in the brewers system, now a week later and another deal later, Cain has somehow been their best prospect for over a year. weird.

Really? Everything I read had Lawrie as their #2 prospect. Either way they've decided to deal off their two best prospects for pitching to help them now. Mind you with Braun, Fielder, and Hart where they are, I suppose their time to strike is now.
