Saskatoon Micro Brewery that has some very nice beer. If you are ever in town grab a pint of Black Cat at the Freehouse downtown across from the Bes, or a beer at Weczeria if you want the best food in town to go with it.

Had this when I was in Winnipeg and Wow or wow, one of the best micro brewery beer I have ever tasted. The Dark was just great. Highly recommend to anyone in the area. |
Lots of good scotch, the Macallan brand is one of my absolute favourites, the 12 is a staple for me. I'm not a fan of the 10 though.

I don't mind it for taste, but man... Velvet Fog is basically liquid Ex-Lax. Guinness makes you feel constipated by comparison.

Good choice. Macallan is my favourite, especially the18 year (but that one is quite expensive)
For smokiness, I really like Talisker as well. It's like bacon level of smokiness

Wild Rose is the best calgary has to offer that I've found. It is better than Big Rock.
And forgive the poster before for knocking it...it is not the best microbrew you'll have, but it is indeed better than anything else made in calgary, and easily better than any mass produced domestic.
The brown ale and seasonals that they make are my favorite.

As for myself, mostly drinking whatever cool beers I can find in kensington wine market or the dalhousie coop. I've had an embarrassing percentage of all of the beers in both.
Always something new on the horizon to try. I don't understand why people limit themselves to a few. Its okay to have favorites, but there will always be something else you find that is fantastic.

I've been drinking a lot of Kokanee because it is on for 12.34 incl deposit and Gst at my local liquor store.
They also have Thirsty Beaver Amber ale for $11 plus gst and deposit which isn't bad.

I just don't understand how they can create one of my all time favorite brews, Velvet Fog, and one of the most vile excuses for beer I've ever tasted, IPA, all in the same facility. I guess to each their own but man oh man is the IPA ever bitter.

I love super bitter IPA's!
However, I agree, I think that their IPA sucks. Best IPA that is easily available here that I've found is either Propeller IPA or Dogfish Head 60/90 minute IPA's.
Neither made in calgary though obviously.

Big big thumbs up from me on the dogfish head 90 minute IPA. This from a person that is kind of getting annoyed with the IPA arms race that seems to be taking place between microbreweries.
I agree with you that there are many beers to try... makes it just that much more enjoyable.
