They are the primary market these poachers cater to. Tigers are all but doomed because the Chinese want their penors, as are countless other exotic creatures. Chinese culture, from what I have seen, has little regard for animal life, and definitely zero regard for conservation.
I have a large extended family from Hong Kong/China. Some who have come to Canada, some who still live there. Much of your post and many in posters in this thread is news to me.

They don't think phallic shaped parts off animals give them super libidos or have miracle curing properties.

They also don't do any of the things mentioned in this thread such as throw rocks at animals at zoos and then laugh about it. This must surprise you. They have as much regard for animal life and conservation as much as anyone in your social circle of moralistic perfection.

According to you, Wikipedia and YouTube, I'm also a menace to animals... I need to head to the zoo this weekend to see if I'm genetically pre-disposed to torturing animals. I've always wondered if my dog tastes gamey or not.

There's over a billion freaking people living in Chinaland. More than 3 times the number of people in North America in a smaller space. So yeah, there's going to be weird and wrong stuff going on. But you've just used a pretty wide aggressive brush (with a whole lot of racial undertones) over a whole lot of people. It's a much, much, much more complex issue than you or I will ever understand.

You knew your statement wouldn't make you popular because you knew it was wrong and ignorant. It'd be interesting if you would read your post verbatim at your workplace instead of posting it on the Internet.

It's because they are becoming harder to find. I spoke last year to a Peruvian friend about it (remember that Chile and Peru are neighbours and share the same Pacific coast) and he was surprised. He said locos in Peru are frigging cheap and plentiful. I'm not sure if Chile (a country with many more regulations in comparison) has legislation or enforcement on it, but that may be a factor.
I believe that in South Africa it has become completely illegal to sell abalone, whether in market or restaurant. That's how threatened they've become. Yet, still it is surprising that I would hear more about that when I was there than large game poaching, although I was in Cape Town which outside of the range of most large game found nearer to Jo'burg such as rhinos and elephants.
