I want to bump this thread because after watching some of the shows everyone recommended (Chuck became my new favorite show because of this thread), I want some more.
I am interested in:
The Wire
The Shield
Fringe
What is everyone's thoughts on these 3 shows?
And is Burn Notice that good? I have had it on my hard-drive for over a year now and still haven't watched it, same with Son's of Anarchy.

I was a huge Shield fan. Was hooked after the first episode. The ending of the pilot shows you this is not your average cop show. I'm currently re-watching the shield and the show gets better and better as it goes on. And the finale, my goodness. Awesome. i can't say enough good things about the Shield.
My love for the Shield also turned me into a huge shield snob. I didn't wanna believe that the Wire was the better cop show. I didn't think it was possible, so I didn't even wanna try it. I heard so many good things about the Wire, I just had to give it a show. I wasn't hooked right away, but damn, was I glad I saw it thru. It's such a unique show and is so much different than the shield. In the shield, the show's main character is Vic Mackey and everything revolves around him. In the Wire, the main character is the city of Baltimore. You get to see Baltimore thru the eyes of the cops, the politicians, the dealers, the junkies, the troubled youth. Everything that makes Baltimore what it is. It's actually pretty sad when you think about it.
The Shield is awesome for many different reasons than the Wire. But both shows are amazing. I would just say that the Wire is more authentic and is the smarter of the two. That's not to say The Shield is a big steaming pile of fluff, it's not. There's great characters and stories. The shows are really different.
Never watched a minute of Fringe.
Currently watching Season 2 of Sons of Anarchy. I don't love it, but it has its place. I don't know if I can buy into the world of outlaw biker gangs. It's okay, but there's plenty of better options out there.

I'm thinking to also watch Deadwood as I have heard good things about it, and I really like Timothy Olyphant.
I got 3-4 weeks off from school and I want to just relax at home and watch some tv.

Deadwood was great and one of my favorite tv characters ever, but the show was never finished, so it's frustrating to get engaged into the show only to have it end so abruptly. It was very good though.

I watch Fringe and enjoy it, it's got kind of an X-Files feel, I would recommend it.

I haven't watched The Wire or The Shield, but I've heard great things.
Fringe is a great show, a contemporary X-Files with an alternate universe rather than aliens.
I enjoy Burn Notice. It's kind of a silly show, but it has a lot of explosions and hot women in Miami.
Sons of Anarchy is pretty good too. The 3rd season, which just ended, was pretty slow in the middle, but the finale was great.

Yes, God yes! Deadwood is great (although it doesn't have a great wrap-up as noted).

The Shield is arguably the best show ever. Seriously, you cannot go wrong. Greatest series finale out of any show I've seen.
Sons of Anarchy is the best thing going right now. A tad slow the first season but it ramped up from there.
Burn Notice is hokey and formulaic but is worth it for the Spy Tips and Bruce Campbell.
No opinion on Fringe, never got into it.

Just caught the first episodes of Sons of Anarchy and it is a pretty cool show so far.
Tried to get into Burn Notice but I just can't. I'll give it one more try but I just find the main character annoying, dull and a bad actor.

Deadwood has a lot of excessive cursing, really took me out of the story and I never really got into it.
I didn't see it in the thread, but I would watch Breaking Bad.

I very rarely watch movies more than once, and I never watch television more than once. There is just too much to see and I don't have time.
That being said, two days after finishing the wire, I started again at season 1.
Also, when I was three episodes from being finished, I was so torn as to whether I should watch it or not. One half of me wanted desperately to see how it ended but the other half dreaded it being over.
That and arrested development are the only two series' I've re-watched.

Lithium just mentioned it, but I recently finished all 3 seasons of Breaking Bad. How good was it? When I found out the new season doesn't start until summer I actually wished I'd never watched it (or at least delayed watching it). Honestly it's just so damn good.

The Wire and The Shield are two of the top 10 greatest shows of all time. I am on season 5 episode 7 right now. Like VANFLAMESFAN, I didn't think a cop show could be as good as The Shield but, damn, The Wire is so good.
Fringe is pretty good for network TV. Watch The Shield and The Wire First.
If your looking for a comedy, The League. It airs on FX in the US and is written and produced by Jeff Schaffer who wrote and produced both Curb and Seinfeld. It is unscripted improve like Curb and is based around a group of friends that are in a fantasy football league.
Next on my list is Breaking Bad and Treme.

Ive seen bits and pieces of the show and every bit and piece has been amazing enough to really capture my interest. I've never seen a full episode, but I intend to start watching the first couple of seasons over the holidays. The vibe of the show really seems interesting.

If you're like me, you'll be blown away that Malcolm's dad is such a badass. Quality show for sure.

I would wait until spring, it'll make it easier on you once you're done season 3.

A documentary on HBO right now is "Teenage Paparazzo," a project by Adrian Grenier of "Entourage" fame.
It just kind of sucks you into the world of celebrities and paparazzi as Grenier focuses on this 14 year-old kid who's taken it into his head he wants to be a celebrity photographer.
A very interesting journey from start to end.

The Wire is arguably the greatest TV show of all time.
Shield is good for what it is but it's not on the same plane as The Wire.

One I'd like to throw out there:
Gavin and Stacey
A BBC series three seasons long with six episodes a season. Really endearing love story of two people who meet over the phone, character driven comedy with one of the best side kick characters I've ever seen in 'Smithy.' Highly recommend it.

I think it's more about his evolution into a badass because he sure wasn't in the initial episode. But his brains and desperation turns him into one.
