I'm astounded this thread hasn't melted into an argument about how stupid Apple is. I guess once the price is announced the fun will begin.

Here is an interesting article by wired.com.

Apple Event to Focus on Reinventing Content, not Tablets

Apple’s goal is to offer a new platform for content creators to reinvent books, magazines and online content — in addition to offering a new avenue for content producers to make money. That platform will likely be far broader than just a tablet device, and will extend to every device or computer that iTunes touches.

“The focus is going to be on content creation and participation,” the source told Wired.com. “If the tablet is going to be an answer to things like the Kindle, which are purely about consumption, what you’re going to see is Apple is going to be full-blown about creation.”

http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/...ablet-content/

Lots of other people are saying the tablet is going to do what the iPod did for music, for print media (newspapers, magazines and books). Personally I like the sounds of this. My only concern is the price point. I have a hard time believing the tablet can revolutionize print media (which no one wants to pay for the digital version of) for around $1000. I hope it costs much less.

What's the best source for live as-it's-happening coverage of the event (outside of watching it myself)? I usually follow the engadget or gizmodo live blog but is there something better?

Unfortunately that's about as good as it gets for live coverage.

It seems strange to me that with all the hoopla surrounding theses announcements that Apple doesn't stream this on their website.

They could no doubt set it up so as soon as the conference is over the video closes and it takes you to the checkout with the tablet in your shopping cart.

Looks like http://live.twit.tv/ is going to try and live stream it. The quality will be horrendous, but it might be the best we get. Apparently they know "a guy" who is going to try and send out a feed. There's been some video come in already, but it's been a tit-bit choppy.

Especially since the video that comes out will be ugly and "un-appleish". This is often one of the arguments that musicians use against bootlegging concerts, and the same should apply here. That being said, they do release them, they just don't do so until after all the fun has occurred.

I can't connect to the TWIT app. I guess they're being hammered.

I'll have to check Engadget or something.

It's starting! Everybody settle in for 20 minutes of charts outlining how much money Apple makes!

http://live.gdgt.com/2010/01/27/live...vent-coverage/

seems like the best live blog - no need to hit F5

Device seems to be the exact same as what was posted last week.

Not sure if I like the huge border around the screen.

Flash thing is a mystery.. because the National Geographic ads all worked, and NAT G uses all flash ads on their site.

The big thing for me is price point... So far this thing looks gorgeous, but not at $1000. You get it close to $700 and it can start comparing with high end ebook readers.

A border is fairly necessary so that holding it with one hand is possible without putting a finger on the touch sensitive display.
