It's me. Back from the dead. That was good times. Drifting snow is definitely the problem. Had quite a few incidents where the snow would come off a field, accumulate on the on-ramp to Stoney (from Deerfoot) and tunnelback towards the field. Couldn't see beyond the windshield.

Came home to find 5' drifts of snow at the front door, shovel that, then off to the wife's christmas party. Forgot I was going to give an update in here. But thanks for the 'concern'.

Stoney Trail was pretty good on my drive home from work. Visibility was bad but the wind actually helped blow the snow off the road since the road and the area around it is pretty flat w/o obstructions so not much accumulation on the road. The only difficult areas were around the interchanges where there was some snow drifts. And also low traffic on Stoney Trail is nice too.

But it will be hell tomorrow. Everyone that stayed home today will probably be going tomorrow, in addition to the m-f'ers who planned to go on the weekend. Combine that with icy road conditions, and it will not be fun.

Just got back from over an hour of fun. All in all it's not too bad... but I have snow tires. Macleod is pretty much snow covered now down south and some two lane roads (like heritage) are down to one lane due to drifting. Plows are having a hard time keeping up.

This will be even more fun when the temp drops even further.

Did you go out for some winter time drifting as well?

There is no effing way I'm driving to Springbank tomorrow to push lines for one flipping hockey game. Sure I've got one at Shouldice before then, but I'm not gonna bother digging my car out for two hours (and it will be all of that, since I currently have 3 feet of drift around it) to do two and a half hours worth of hockey.

This is why we're worried about our game tomorrow night. The chances of having a time-keeper, refs and two teams show up doesn't seem too likely if it's anything like today.....and it's out in Chestemere.

Well as long as the guys are out of Chestermere, there's a damn good chance things will move along. But if they're put on by CZRC, chances probably aren't great. Although men's league's aren't dealt with by them anymore so who knows...if they're close I'm sure they'll try and show...there gets to be a point where it's just too much of a bloody hassle/danger. Really, it's nobody's main job. Sure it sucks that games will have to get rescheduled, but there gets to be a point where heading out in the weather just isn't worth it.

I'm just glad I made my calls tonight and said I wouldn't be showing up to the games I've gotta do if the weather is like this tomorrow. I've got better things to do then wait for a tow truck when it's 20 below.

Coming home from hockey tonight on Deerfoot from Country Hills back to Memorial was interesting. I've never seen Deerfoot with that much snow on it in my life, nor the stretch of Memorial between Deerfoot and downtown. Absolutely insane there is enough snow that traffic didn't even melt off ruts.

The wind was insane, and on the polished parts my car was getting blown sideways on the ice (heavy car with AWD, winter tires, two passengers and two hockey bags). Many parts of Deerfoot the right lane was impassible because the drifts were so massive. No sign of plows. I was curious, do they not plow because it's too dangerous? Dangerous for the operators to get to work? I thought they kept the equipment right beside Deerfoot, no?

With no plows running and the wind keeping up, it's going to be impassible tomorrow.

kind of hard to believe that it's still blowing harder than an Edmonton prom date, that's like 16 straight hours of nasty wind. glad i have nothing to do and nowhere to be tomorrow

Again, the city is useless (although the province deals with Deerfoot and Stoney). They'll trot out some excuse about it being the perfect storm again. Looks like we are 3/3 this year when it comes to perfect storms making our snow removal laughable.

You know, they are starting to sound like gasoline suppliers when the prices go up before every single long weekend.

Before saying the city is useless, park anywhere near a main road for 15 minutes and count the number of plows that go by. Then count how many minutes it takes for the road to becomes covered with snow after they make their pass.

Drove home at 11pm last night to Airdrie. On Hwy2 visibility from Stoney Trail to Balzac overpass was pretty much zero in blowing snow. Was going about 15km/h for about 5 minutes. Couldn't tell what lane we were in or even if we were heading for the ditch. Worst driving conditions I've ever seen.

Got home and then got stuck on our street. A nice neighbour came out and helped dig the car out. Finally got going after digging the car out and my check engine light comes on and now the car is running like crap. FML

Now I'm at work after about 4 hours sleep, barely made it out of our street with our other car. Had to back out of the street because I couldn't turn around. Get to work and the street is impassible. Had to park 10 minutes away and walk in 60km/h winds right in my face.

At least I have to work until 5pm so things should be better by then (I hope)

The QE2 was closed this morning, so I had to drive on the service road. I got stuck in a snow drift and had to get pulled out. I shoveled the street so that I had a place to park.

I drove in at 415 from Airdrie. At that time the QE2 was open and really not too bad. The visibility was way worse last night.
