I was running a skate shop, had the day off. Got a phone call from my friend Malcolm, and even though I was half asleep still remember the conversation:

"Whaaaaaaaat!?!?!" (Me)
"Turn on your f***ing TV!"
"Huh, what? What channel?"

And the sentence I still remember, only because it had never happened and I don't imagine will happen again...

"Any of them. Just turn it on."

I know reading it it doesn't sound deep, but to hear that from one of my buds, I assumed it was nuclear war. Turned on the TV literally 10 seconds before seeing the second plane smash into the Towers. I was lost, WTF is happening etc. Watched the TV all day.

I was listening to talk radio this afternoon, and the topic was 9/11. And they asked people to call in and tell them if they remember where they were and what their thoughts were.

Most were similar comments to those in the thread.

Then this poor man from Victoria called in. He said that for some reason, he turned on the TV that morning, 10 minutes before he was to go to work. And he saw the second plane hit.

And he knew that his niece worked on the 45th floor of that building. And he kept wondering if she had gone to work that day, then started praying that she had not gone to work that day, then started praying that she would get out ok.

But they never saw her again. And sadly, not a trace was ever found of her to this day. And she left behind an 8 month old son.

And for this man and his family, their lives have never been the same. Even after all this time, he could not contain his emotions while talking. It simply broke my heart to hear his emotions come through on the air.

I ran out of thanks, but that breaks my heart reading it. So sad...
It is stuff like this why all the crap jokes in this thread are wrong. There are times and places for that, and this thread is not it.
This is one mans story... how many more are there like his?

I think what makes this especially sad is the notoriety of the event. Imagine having to hear about the event that killed your love one over and over again, everywhere you look.

Also related, both of my parents were in NY one day earlier. They were scheduled to have lunch in one of the buildings on the 11th, but it fell through and they came home. Thinking about that effs with my head. I'll ask them to get the specific restaurant that it was, but they both would have died. Man, that day was effed up.

I had a block week course last week taught by a former Mossad agent about Middle Eastern politics. He said Israel has 200 nukes ready to be fired on the push of a button.

The more you know..

Well in that case, Obama isn't stopping it either.

But it sure is fun to dogpile on Bush!

And it is a matter of national security to keep any nation with nuclear weapons stable. That is why Pakistan hasn't been invaded to get Bin Laden. That is also why stopping Iran from gaining nuclear weapons is so important.

Don't kid yourself. Iran has nuclear weapons already or the USA would have gone in there like gangbusters just like they did in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I love the funny fat guy from North Korea. He doesn't give a crap about his people starving to death because he knows the only way his country will be taken seriously on the world stage is if they have viable nucleur capability.

Wouldn't you have to go back to the point when folks started slamming Bush? Or maybe the point when America's support of Israel was criticized?

Why? Because we have a soul? and you are apparently a total void deep inside?

What a ridiculous question. That was a WORLD CHANGING day. God forbid people reminisce.
