Ok, I'm going to write two responses for you, and you pick the one you find most amenable to your understanding:
#1. You say that like it's a scathing insult. Here in the land we call "adulthood", calling something "gay" is somewhat less than effective - if you're expecting the reader to reel back, aghast at the implication of homosexuality, you're due for extreme disappointment. It's like calling someone "poopy-pants" or "noodle nose" - it only illustrates the sad lack of inventiveness all too common with those who are unable to look past childhood for effective slander.
