I had all four of mine out at the same time. I had the twilight sedation. That part was kind of awesome. I remember bits of what happened (no pain though) and it seemed like it lasted about two seconds, then I was in recovery.

The recovery wasn't as bad as I had feared. I didn't really need the Tylenol 3s. I made one mistake, which was eating pasta and then getting a little in one hole and trying to find it with my tongue. Luckily it just got a bit irritated, no big deal.

Whatever you do, a) follow the instructions for post care exactly - I cannot emphasize this enough, 2) do not use a straw before your time, 3) do not eat anything small enough to go in the holes until they are nicely closed, including pasta, 4) do not feel around with your tongue, 5) if you have pain that concerns you, call the oral surgeon immediately, because it can get much, much worse if not handled right away.

What did your dentist say? My teeth were so far down they had to take some bone with it, so I had no choice but full anesthesia. Afterwards, they must've given me a prescription for about 30-40 Percocet, of which I used every single one. But every case is different, see what your dentist thinks?

So kid #2 had all 4 of his removed today. This is weird but......anyone have a really violent case of hiccups afterward? His are crazy bad right now and sound horrible. He's tried drinking some water but it's not helping. Tried having him hold his breath for a bit but that didn't work either. Looks and sounds miserable.

Did the kid have general anesthesia? A side effect of anesthesia is hiccups. Anything from an hour up to 48 hours (persistant hiccups). Far as I know, it's just a wait it out thing.

No, just sedation with...oh crumb, can't remember the name of it right now. He had to take one pill an hour before coming in, and then they crushed up some more of it and put it under his tongue to absorb.

They seem to be settling down now - still having slight ones, not quite so violent or noisy. When my daughter had the two out a few weeks ago, her reaction was weepy/emotional, which they told me is very common for girls/women. I am really glad this is the last of the wisdom teeth thing.

bumping a old thread -
It's time I have all 3 removed (never did have a 4th)
I went in for x rays, etc as the pain was unbearable for the one tooth. They have booked me in which is just under 2 weeks from now. My question - could severe neck pain be related to the wisdom tooth? I have never experienced anything like it and about 24 hours after the tooth was really bothering me, my neck was slightly swollen...not enough to really notice but the dentist said they could feel it and then 24 hours after that my neck is super stiff with the odd shooting pain in certain movements.
I want to go see a massage therapist but figured cp could be as much help explaining if there is any chance the wisdom teeth - jaw bone - neck pain can all align.

He was probably given Ativan for sedation.
