I think it's a good sign that they are honoring this guy's fare, he apparently didn't even have a confirmation, since he used Visa to book. Kind of sets a precedent for the rest of us who do have a confirmation. Or is it just the squeaky wheel getting the grease?

I used visa to book on Travelocity, got a confirmation from them, and also pulled my itinerary off spanair. I called them this morning and the guy said it was all fine, even gave me my ticket numbers over the phone.
I used Visa on orbitz for another booking as well, and it's all confirmed with spanairs ticket numbers too.
I'm gonna go all Lahey on them if it gets cancelled for some reason.

I had no trouble using Visa, got the confirmation within 2 minutes, booked 20-28.

Yeah, I'm wondering if we all have to call in to Spanair to get them to honour it, or just to travelocity/orbitz? There's a lot up in the air right now.

I emailed them...the cost to phoning them was 0,41 €/min. fix line, 0,75 €/min. mobile, taxes included. so that kinda deterred me from phoning.

Sorry, Travelocity. He even told me that the flights are confirmed with gate numbers, and not to worry, my tickets are confirmed with the airline.
No visa charges on my card yet though. I think once that happens we're in the clear. I hope.

This was me too, except Sept 19 - 27. Confirmation was basically immediate from Travelocity, I used my Visa, and I checked the Spanair website for our itinerary and it was there (and yes, I even took a screenshot!).

Thanks for clarifying. Just trying to figure out how far I might need to push this, if at all.
Also for the record, I called up M/C last night after buying the tickets and the charges were already on my card. My friend used Visa and hasn't had any push back at all. Got his confirmation email with all the same info as me. I think the Visa thing is an annoyance on the travelocity side and they prefer M/C, nothing more (my speculation)

hey guys good news.
I just talked to someone from travelocity, (finally got a MC) and they said they will be honoring all flights as long as they are able to pay with Mastercard.
good luck everyone

If RFD has this deal there is likely 100's of others who got it. Lots of traffic there.

Apparently it made it's way to the FlyerTalk forums as well (wasn't me) - there's a 6 page thread about it in the mileage run section.
And those guys are hardcore travel junkies.

Impressive if they honour it if it was a mistake because I bet the cash might be worth more than the potential "bad press" for an airline 99% of people have never heard of.
|
Would come at a bad time for AC though, who operates the flights. They just entered into that codeshare agreement with Span Air on like May 1.

I happen to agree with fotze on this one, people have short memories and will buy with their wallets and not with their hearts. If Air Canada has a flight that is $5 cheaper, people will buy that regardless of the news story they saw on the news a few months back. At the end of the day that is all that really matters in my view at least.

True, true, but what about the Travelocity guarantee? That gnome must stand for something!

I'm banking on the gnome as well!
just checked my MC as well and it looks like it's been put through, hasn't shown up yet but the balance available has decreased by the expected amount.

Alright guys I just got off the phone with travelocity:
-The rep said that because I changed the payment from Visa to Mastercard yesterday, my tickets are booked and will be honoured by the airline
-He also said that my Visa will not be charged and was not charged, because Spanair wasn't accepting Visa.
-As long as you booked with Mastercard yesterday, it looks pretty solid, and the tickets will be honoured by the airline.
I'm not sure what is gunna happen to those who booked with Visa, you'll have to call travelocity and let them know your problem. But for those of us that booked with MC, as of this minute everything looks good.

For anyone that's curious, it seems that this fare was caused by a 'fat finger discount'. In other words, someone typed it in wrong. They were supposed to type in a fare of 855 + taxes but ended up typing 55 + taxes.
