Anyone here got a recommendation for an indoor and/or attic based antenna their having good results with in the city?
I just moved to Canyon Meadows and my old "string a 10' coaxial cable from the ceiling" trick isn't working for me like it did in Killarney, so I'm looking to get a cheap/effective antenna for indoor use.
My preference would be for a smaller indoor/set top type but I'm not oppose to climbing into the attic for a more permanent solution.

If your line of sight is good a $10 set of bunny ears is all you need.

I'm really glad I helped you with that lightbox/image gallery question you had last week.

Here's the problem (and it's not just you)- but comments like this are a little vague. We live in a pretty big city, with lots of obsticles, and all our transmitters are on one side of town. I have line of sight, but with the transmitters 25 km away rabbit ears only bring in 2 channels. And that involves very careful tuning.
What would be helpful is if people have an antenna that works for them; also let us know what neighbourhood you live in.

I have three of this model and it works great: http://www.walmart.ca/Electronics/TV...927-TV-antenna
I have two set up in in my condo in Spruce Cliff and one at my fiancee's house in Charleswood. Both pick up 2.1, 4.1, 5.1, 21.3, 36.1 and I think 38 (Global, CTV, CITY, CBC, duplicate CTV, and CTS respectively.)
CBC seems to bounce around a lot. First it was 6.1, then 9.1, and now 21.3.
Someone can correct me if I got some of the numbers mixed up, I'm not at my TV.

Here is the one I am using: http://www.tvantennaplans.com/
And I'm up in Taradale.

You are correct, there have been a few that have jumped around. And one of the 36 or 38 channels is Omni (I think it is 38.1 AND 38.3) with the other CTS.
Plus I'm noticing a couple of them are also broadcasting some of their guide data OTA.

It is fairly directional. Mine is flat against the wall which is close enough, but I know if I take it down and turn it that there is a better angle. I just haven't figured out a good way to do that yet (some sort of wall offsets for a few degrees).

Do you need an antenna for every tv?

Good question- for analog a regular cable splitter worked just fine. I can't see digital not working the same way; I will have to try at some point.

I only have one HDTV, so I can't test.
I can't see why it wouldn't split - it isn't like there is any active electronics in it to have any issues with multiple signals.

Splitting should be fine, you may need to amplify the signal.
With all OTA being digital now, the need for a fancy antenna is far less than it was before. In Calgary, it probably doesn't make a difference. There's no further away stations that one could receive anyway.
I should try out my antenna again, to see what I get. Tried it last summer for a while, but only having Global come through clearly was annoying.
It shouldn't be hard to get 6 channels pretty clearly now.

I meant to mention last night, both antennas in Spruce Cliff work great even though all my windows face east and I am in a concrete building. The antenna at my fiancee's home in Charleswood seems to have trouble picking up 2.1, even though it's in a west facing window, and is obviously a wood structure.

I'm down in Canyon Meadows and thus far I'm unable to get much of anything, CTV will occasionally come in but it's spotty at best, but having said that I don't have a long enough cable to test near my upstairs windows or attic, so this is just from the ground level.
But as I mentioned before in my basement in Killarny/Glenbrook I was able to pick up 4 of the local channels pretty clearly with just a cable hanging from the drop ceiling, but obviously pretty close to the towers there.

Just to follow up on this, I purchased one of these Terk HDTVa Antennas from Tiger Direct and I'm getting pretty decent results, pulling in 5/6 down here in Canyon Meadows from my living room.
I need to get an adapter to string a longer coaxial cable and try this antenna on the second floor or attic, but given the results in the living room on the ground level I'd expect to get all 6 OTA HD channels with the right positioning.
Update #2
Alright one more update for those who google Over The Air HDTV in Canyon Meadows, mounted the Terk HDTVa in the attic and I'm now pulling in all 6 OTA digital channels in Calgary.

Now that CBC isn't in 1080, why bother with antennas? I enjoyed hockey in uncompressed 1080 quite a bit last year.
It's not like there is anything else worth receiving in this HD OTA craphole of ours.

Well not to re-enter the tired 1080 VS 720 debate, but on my TV in my living room 720 still looks fantastic, so at 720 hockey is still a worthwhile persuit. But independent of that the value of OTA tv is still the local news. I've got Boxee/Netflix for everything else, live sports & news are covered by the OTA offerings.
