I can understand that.

But these opposition parties would be far better served keeping this "nuclear" option as a deterrent for the time when Harper doesn't back down.

Force the CPC to work with the other parties for the betterment of all. As long as they know they can pull together the votes to trigger an election (or coalition) then they have the power to prevent themselves from being bullied.

I think everyone would be much better off if all these a-holes realized people don't want this strongly partisan crap going on, and figured out how to make things work.

They don't need to agree. Heck they shouldn't agree. Different perspectives are good things. But when they disagree for the sake of disagreeing, they should all be turfed.

I intend a liberal immigration policy and easily obtainable citizenship for applicants with the right qualifications.

4. They don't work hard enough
5. They are not, and don't want to be Canadians

Only if BC goes along at least, I don't like the idea of being landlocked...but I highly doubt that would work with our fundamental cultural differences anyways...

1. beauty is in the eye of the beholder
2. yeah, they do

4. some kind of poll is popping up in my head that is reminding me that they work the least hours in the country. FWIW.
5. It may be 12 years old, but I recall 50.4%-49.6% am I crazy?

6. No, no we shouldn't. What we should do is stop taking the shaft and start standing up for ourselves. In fact, every province should.
What really needs to happen is that power needs to be diluted from Ottawa and concentrated provincially. Then you'd see a bunch of organizations working together to better themselves instead of a bunch of organizations taking as much as they can to better themselves.

Maybe. It was just an observation about how this always goes.

"Quebec sucks because they bitch and talk about separating to get what they want. The thing to do is bitch and talk about separating so we can get what we want and that wouldn't suck".

Seems kind of goofy to me.

It's never going to happen. Quebec has never been able to pull it off and they actually elect people who believe in the idea. We don't.

I agree with Trout in that a landlocked province with 3.5 million people makes as much sense as the country of Southern Alberta, Calgary, or even the Sultanate of West Hills.

However given that seemingly the one thing the coalition parties all can agree on is massive bailouts to money losing industries at even the best of times in other provinces with money coming from essentially Alberta and Saskatchewan and the fact that a 'Green Shift,' Socialism, and Quebec Separatism are all not positive things for Alberta, a little chest beating is in order. Apparently sending 143 Conservative MPs to Ottawa isn't enough to protect our economy so maybe sending 28 'Bloc Alberta' MPs to be the swing vote in a coalition government might do a better job of extracting what we want out of confederation (Simply to be granted all the powers 100% given to the provinces in the British North America Act of 1867). Seems to be working for Quebec, why not us too.

I think this thread is asking the wrong question.

The question ought to be whether you would support Alberta having a Referendum on the issue. Then once it is agreed to have the Referendum, then the question of whether you support seperation ought to be asked.

I, for one, think Alberta has to explain to people in the Province exactly what an independant Alberta would look like. It's all fine and dandy to talk about seperating - or leaving the abusive relationship - but you need to see what the alternatives will actually be and make an informed decision.

Actually, Alberta separatism has little do with Quebec specifically as it does the fact that Ottawa has historically dismissed the west at best, and crippled it to support the east at worst.

Keep in mind that Ottawa has been trying to steal from the west since our provinces were created. It took us 20 years to earn the same constitutional rights to our own resources that the existing seven provinces had since they joined confederation.

Think about where Alberta and Saskatchewan would be today if Brownlee et al were not able to fight for our rights, and it was Ottawa that controlled our natural resources?

Until Ottawa learns to view the west as a partner rather than a region to be exploited, Alberta separatism will remain. Probably it will remain as little more than a fly biting you, but the problem is Ottawa, not Quebec.

What ended up happening was the largest province dictated who controlled national affairs.

EEE Senate man. That is how true regional representation will come to be.

We should seperate, and then immediately invade BC and claim it, with future plans of taking Saskatchewan.
I'd be all for it.

So would any of you with separatist intentions care to be the first to sign up for Alberta's military?
