ah, he's a pissed off Scot, it makes a little more sense. Still pretty stupid to hate on our soldiers for something England did to them.

Ahhh it comes out. You're said you're Scottish and it's obvious you're against the English.

Anyway, yeah I'll be happy to debate you responses to me another day, in another thread if you want. But now is not the time.

Why get upset folks..? Sadly theres idiots everywhere who will spout utter garbage to support some backwater ideal that most people think is rubbish.. He's no different, although he's pretty diluted to actually believe the things he says.

Screw it, if anyone deserves defending it's the veterans. After all, they defended us. You're the jerk, not me.

Saving someone from a life of violence and oppression is ignorant? You make it sound like the only thing they have going against them is they have to wear bulky clothing. That's not it at all.

I'm all for cultural differences. And you'll notice that we allow for those in Canada. But we also allow these women to go to school and protect them from abusive families. THAT'S the difference. There is a huge difference between cultural differences and outright oppression.

No, people and countries don't have a right to tell other countries how to be. But I think they do have a responsibility to look out for people who are in very real need for help. The same way we should be helping in Darfur and other places.

It's not about changing the culture. Heck it's not even about bringing 'freedom' in that American sense. I'm against a lot of the tenants of that idea too which I believe to be based on capitalism. But there is an importance to making a difference in the world and protecting those who can't protect themselves.

Canada should not have entered the war. It was 3000 miles away and concerned European nations and their empires. What do I care if France gets invaded? Or England for that matter.
I guess I should have said I was mostly of Scottish decent. Sorry to hit a nerve there. I don't really consider myself Canadian, either. I think of myself as a White North American.
I'm just pointing out that the English must have done something to royally piss the Irish off.
My beef is with both. How anybody could fight for the English is beyond me.
The holocaust wouldn't have happened had the allies not gone in to defend Europe? Man, pick up a history book. There were already serious attrocities going on by 1936, 3 years before the larger war started. And there was lots going on before that too.

And you know what, I'll give you that the average soldier probably wasn't going to defend the Jewish people. We didn't know about the extent of what was going on until later in the war. But they did go to protect Europe and the very possible threat that their own homeland could be on the list somewhere. Yes the Germans would have had a hard time invading North America. But have you seen some of their space plans, genetics plans, technology plans from their labs in those times? There can be no argument that the Nazis were looking to be the dominant power, if not literally rule the world. They had a long term strategy for the world, and the people they wanted to oppress including Jews, homosexuals, and other people they considered to be of negative value to the human race.

Lastly, what do you care about France or England or Poland? Like I said when I first responded to you. Just because you don't care about other people doesn't mean we all don't.

I went with my boys to the memorial today. It was raining but, that didn't stop the crowd. There were more in attendance today then I've seen in the past few years. A few had their poppy on the right side instead of the left. Others put their poppy on their base ball cap. Most of the men didn't remove their hat for the Canadian anthem or God save the Queen. They also left it on for the prayers at the beginning and end of the ceremony. I don't think people should jump all over someone for getting the traditions wrong but a little educating wouldn't hurt.

^^^ I agree. It's pointless to get mad about the little mistakes especially when you see people making an effort. But education could be a good thing. It wouldn't be hard.

I went to the 285 legion today.. The service was excellent and everyone was respectful. I tried to make it to the museum but the cops stopped me for speeding..

Just discovered a new way not to lose the poppy...

First, when I put on my poppy, I go through the material an extra time so that the excess pin is not visible.
Last night I had an epiphany.... I took needle nose pliers and bent the extra part of the pin back in a kind of loop and now the poppy cant escape my jacket even after abuse from a seat belt and also taking off my jacket and throwing it on the couch.

They should just start making them like that, like with a little hook, or clip, or cap. I'm surprised they haven't already actually. I've only been wearing them a week and am already on my third poppy.

I'm sure that one little design change would cost quite a bit in the long run. Probably not worth the effort. I mean I know I try to donate when I pick mine up. A couple bucks instead of just small change. But many people don't. (Which I'm not saying is wrong, I'm just saying they don't). So it's probably best to keep them as cheap as possible to encourage the widest use that is possible.
