This is one of my favorites as well. This was my number one pick for animated as well. Lion King was 2nd and that one is gone as well.
Here's were favouite film vs. best film available kicked me in the nuts. Pulp Fiction is easily my favorite movie of all time, but due to the nature of the draft, I couldn't pass up on the Godfather.
Funny enough, I've never seen any of the Godfather movies.
so you pick a movie you've never seen? that's rather brave of you, what if you thought it sucked after viewing it?
When it comes to these lists, it's not what I think is the best list. It's voted on by other people. I can only hope that whomever is voting isn't as big a social degenerate as I am that they have seen my choices.
With the 25th Overall pick The All Or Nuttin Team is proud to select in the "Best picture" category, a true masterpiece, winner of 6 Academy Awards including the Best Picture award, featuring A class cast Robert de Niro, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall and Diane Keaton, The Godfather Part II.
"The Godfather Part II is considered by many to be the most critically and artistically successful sequel in movie history, and is certainly the most honored. Many critics praise it as equal, or even superior, to the original film. The Internet Movie Database consistently ranks this movie in the top five of its "Top 250 movies of all time", as voted by its users, and holds a "98%" rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film also regularly ranks independently on many "greatest movies" lists.
The Godfather Part II is ranked as the #1 greatest movie of all time in TV Guide Magazine's "50 Best Movies of all time", and it is ranked at #7 on Entertainment Weekly 's list of the "100 Greatest Movies of All Time". The film is also featured on movie critic Leonard Maltin's list of the "100 Must-See Films of the 20th Century". It was also featured on Sight and Sound's list of the ten greatest films of all time in 1992 and 2002.
As the decades have passed, like the first film, The Godfather Part II remains seen as one of the finest movies of all time. Like the film itself, Al Pacino's performance became legendary. The general public and many movie critics have praised Pacino's performance in Part II as perhaps his best and one of the best performances of all time. In 2006, Premier Magazine issued "The 100 Greatest Performances of all Time", ranking Al Pacino's performance at #20."

This team could not believe this epic drama was still available so late in the first round, and of course The All Or Nuttin Team is honored to have the opportunity to welcome it on board.

Yeah, there were one or two other films that merited consideration for my pick, but it really came down to Godfather II and Vertigo. Like part of your summary says, the fact that Godfather II at least equals its predecessor is astounding, and an achievement in its own right, because in many ways, they are much different movies. The Don's backstory is handled so brilliantly it plays out like a movie within a movie, and Al Pacino's transformation from his first appearance in Part I to the ruthless head of the family in Part II is indeed an actor at his finest. I remember loving this movie more than the first one when I first saw them, and although I have developed a recent re-appreciation for the technical aspects of the first movie, this one is also a true classic.
I take it you're referring to the more famous 1939 version and not for example the 1933 version? (Obviously you're not referring to the 1991 version.)
This is why it's good to include the release year when declaring your pick. Many stories have been filmed many times, and sometimes there's even completely different movies with the same name.
Being that this is a hockey board, completing the first round of the CP Movie Draft without this picked would be, well, um, Wrong!
With the 27th and last pick of the 1st round of the draft, "Wrapped in Plastic" selects SLAP SHOT (1977) in the SPORTS category.
Every discussion I can think of regarding the best or favourite sports movie of all time has Slap Shot at or near the top of the list. Considering how it's grown in popularity over the last 30 years, I feel lucky to have seen this in the theatre in its opening release.

The hilarious opening interview
The greatest shift ever in hockey history (sorry Jarome)
In a statement, the team's GM said "This is the one we had at the top of our list. We can't believe it was still available at the last pick of Round 1! I feel like Lou Lamoriello in 1998."
With the turnaround 28th pick of the 2nd round of the draft, "Wrapped in Plastic" selects THE DARK KNIGHT in the ACTION category.
I feel I don't need to say much about this choice. There are two lengthy threads in this forum already. When I entered the FAN960 advance screening a couple of weeks ago, I was excited due to the buildup and anticipation. When I left, I felt it lived up to the hype and more. Easily one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

Damn, any other youtube clip I bookmark gets deleted swiftly by Warner Bros. Oh well.
