Sounds vaguely familiar to this from Fotze...

Baxter: Leave these people alone. They mean you no harm.
Bear: We Bears are a proud race. They must pay for their intrusion.
Baxter: On my journey I met one of your kind. His name was Katow-jo. We became friends.
Bear: Katow-jo is my cousin. Go in peace.
Baxter: I will tell tales of your compassion.
Bear: Fare thee well, Baxter. You shall always be friend of the bears.

I figured in the wake of the Asian restaurant thread, an equally irrational thread should be bumped.

The only thing irrational about this thread, is the fact that bears still roam free. Last summer there were multiple bear sightings in Calgary. Times were good then. Now with economic downturn they'll smell fear and move in with greater numbers this summer. I'm with OP on this one.

I'm thinking we need to setup some internment camps.. One for the Asians, one for the bears. The sooner we fence these monsters the better.

How does bear meat taste? Could we setup bear restaurants to take the place of the Asian restaurants we can't go to anymore?

What about Asian bears? Which camp would they reside in? Do they get to choose?

I worry about bears where I go fishing. A grizzly got one angler near a hole I fished at Castle River. My cousin once had to shoot at a grizzly that charged his camp. Bear attacks are actually quite rare (you are more likely to be hit by lightning).
I doubt there will be any grizzlies in Southern Alberta in 100 years. A shame, but I don't think we can co-exist. Black Bears are not as threatened. There is a grizzly on the California state flag, but there has not been one there in ages.

At my family's cottage on Georgian Bay, there have always been bears around but generally they'd hang out around the nearby dump. However, about a decade ago the dump was closed and now the bears are spending more time near the cottages. Last year there was one shot four cottages down and all garbage cans have to be kept inside.
As a teen I'd have no issue making the 45 minute walk down the cottage road to the marina but I wouldn't walk two cottages down along the road these days.
