He is one cool dude, all of Nenshi's staff are excellent people. Very easy going and great to just chat with.

Do you mean the light-coloured horizontal apparatus on the very top? That's for window washing. Oh, and Petro Canada Centre (now Suncor Energy Centre) was completed in 1984.

I lined up the curtain wall on the Petro Can building back in 83. I usually worked on the Iron but didn't get a chance on that job, although I made a tour up to the top floor to walk some beams at over 500', just to say I did.

Nice,... Frink noted it was done in 84... Yikes I'm getting old.
When I was 16 I packed rebar on the Memorial flyover, (summer 81 ?) crazy working as an iron worker back then

I'm going to miss this about the tower. With the move, I no longer walk beside that building 5 times a week. I've been doing that walk for around 3 years now, so it'll be odd not to be walking it when they finally finish.

That doesn't looks substantially taller than Suncor from those photos, how close were they from the top?
That view up Center Street is amazing.

Looks like they were on 54 of 58.

What's the story with this? Caption says it's an auditorium. I hadn't heard there was going to be such a thing. I wonder if it will be open to the public?

I think Chima is way cooler than Naheed. And I'm a big Naheed fan!

My understanding it is for the use of Cenovus/EnCana only. I recall hearing they had some challenges getting the screen in for the auditorium due to its size/weight.

Ledcor had a bunch of spares that they use for visitors, funny enough it turns out that Nenshi gets a pair that are pink/purple. Kind of fitting given his campaign colour!

We only got up to floor 54. There were two more office floors above us before the top two mechanical levels. Would love to get the view from up there or even the roof someday.

I remember seeing this auditorium being built from my view at home. I really hope they have curtains or something for the windows that face the audience, or I really don't think anyone will pay attention to the presentations there! The view will be SE, S, SW, it will no doubt be spectacular!

He really is, very approachable and friendly to everyone that stopped to say hi to him as we walked over to the site.
Then while in the building he is discussing with member of his staff some of his interactions and responses to people on his blog and twitter. He is literally engaged with us citizens every single moment he's awake.
It's an amazing level of dedication, but I'm not surprised by it anymore. It's what I've come to expect from him since I met him a couple of years ago.

Good job for a student. I worked mostly structural steel and some pre-cast. I still get a sense of accomplishment when I pass a job I worked on and although I no longer live in Calgary, I left something there.

A lot of these old school companies have auditoriums - Cenovus / Encana have one currently in Palliser Square (legacy PanCanadian), TransAlta has one in their complex, as does Atco in their building.

I think so. Its profile has no features, just a big fat rectangle. Much prefer EAP, out of the newer buildings.

Fantastic pic, thanks for posting, and very jealous.
Has any details of the two pieces Jaume Plensa is doing for The Bow been released yet?
