Not saying there's no culture in Calgary, that'd be an impossibility in a city this large but it's definetely peanuts to real world class cities.

Not only that but there's not much to do in this city to be active, we only have The Flames... It's too cold, windy, ugly 8 months a year...

I'm moving to Phoenix this summer (When it's a cool 110 F.. eek) and while it's not a cultural hotbed like Paris there is so much to do year round. Every level of sports imaginable, weather good enough to go running every day, hiking all year round, alot of great patio's to relax at YEAR ROUND.

If you've lived in Calgary long enough, it's a very, VERY boring town unless you enjoy the bar/pub scene.

Yeah it's all good. Don't worry about it.

But you know that feeling when you go to a place like Paris? You're on another planet almost... Maybe i've just lived in Calgary too long but I can't find that in this city anymore even Vancouver as I mentioned.. go to Robson in a Summer evening and it's Bustling! Calgary can't even hold a candle to that outside of Stampede... and even then, not so much.
If you think that all we have in Calgary is the flames you need to get out into your own back yard a little more.

Portland has to be one of the most relaxed cities I've been to in a LONG time. That place was awesome.

San Jose and the surrounding areas are so high-tech it's scary sometimes. When I had a job interview in Santa Clara I was pretty shocked to learn that I wasn't going to have much of a personal life. Everything is about devotion to work down there it seemed.

My sister has lived in Santa Clara for the last 6-7 years and LOVES it. But then again, she's not in the high-tech industry. I'd totally consider living around there.

Yeah, I had a friend who worked for Google. Life there was like this: wake up late, get a coffee... long lunch... work till 10pm.

Which company did you interview for?

I've read good things about Hillsboro (ie. close to Portland) and that looks like my best "international" opportunity.

A few years ago i'd agree with you, if you bought a house in 2003 you're rolling now, but for me heading into a market like Calgary? It'd take me 10 years to get a house.. maybe a slight exaggeration but still a huge concern and as much as I am saying I'm bored of Calgary, I could see myself living here a few more years if I could, but I really can't do it financially...

I'm an American/Canadian dual citizen and have my U.S. Passport and Social Security number so for me to move down there is cake.

I'm pretty much the opposite of you, SarichFan.

Moved to Calgary about 2.5 years ago from Edmonton. Because of the O&G industry, Ive been able to obtain a salary level over 60% higher than my previous job in Edmonton.

Putting the finishing touches on my first home. Market is great for buyers right now!

I go snowboarding in Banff/Lake Louise every weekend. No need to plan weekends, book hotels.... Its great emailing my friends on Friday afternoon asking "who wants to go?" instead of having to plan a riding weekend weeks in advance.

I like Calgary a lot, probably won't move back. Calgary may be boring for some, but for many others (esp young professionals) it's a land of opportunity!

Good luck in Phoenix, man!

Every place gets boring after a while, I went to California (LA, Anaheim and a few other places) for two weeks and now if I was to go back there is only a few things I would do over again, just like Calgary.
