Italy with an own goal and a red card in Matter of minutes. My Italian friends are going crazy.
Now the USA with a red card. Crazy
Edit start of the 2nd half and USA down to 9 men

Weak reffing in the USA/Italy game.

Honestly, that reffing was pretty fair.
Clumsy, late, double footed tackles by the US to get their cards, and the Italian red card was fully legitimate.

I believe the player with the Isreal flag plays in Tel Aviv.
That Italy game sure was crazy. I thought the second yellow that led to the sending off was a little weak but the 2 reds were deserved in my mind. The own goal was brutal. Of course mistakes happen, but I think more should be expected in the World Cup. This group has turned out to be the most interesting by far.

Well I had a chance to go see a game live for the first time in my life. I went to Frankfurt yesterday to watch Iran and Portugal. It was a decent game at best until the penalty kick, which I was about 100 feet from. My seat was directly above the net right in the center and Portugal was shooting on my side in the second half. That penalty kick was worth the $250.00 CAN I spent on that ticket. I was just hopig for a goal and I got a goal and a penalty kick.
The stadium was about 80% Iran fans and the rest Portugal. My seats were in the Iran section and they were loud. Very classy fans though. They cheered there team off the field when the game was over and went home peacefully, as did the Portugal fans. Unlike the Dutch fans from Friday night. WOW they are the craziest soccer fans here in Germany bar none. After the win on Friday night it seemed that they had taken over Stuttgart. Everywhere you went there was someone wearing orange. After the game they were all over the streets and climbing up the fountains and rocking cars around etc....Those guys are nuts!!! Lots of fun to see that!!!
I recorded the goal from the stands and I will post that with other pictures when I get back to Calgary.

TOTF, i am so jealous man, I would have loved to have been there with my portugal gear on. Thought POrtugal played very well, I mean Iran had one shot the entire game and I thought Figo, Decon and Ronaldo were excellent, I love that midfield trio.

So with the final games of the group stage starting on tuesday, here are the teams that have a guaranteed spot in the round of 16.
Group A
Ecuador
Germany
(A tie between Ecuador and Germany in the next game gives Ecuador top spot in this group. Ecuador currently has five goals for and 0 against.)
Group B
England
(Trinidad's World Cup is almost over but they still have a glimmer of hope, altthough a very small one. They have to beat Paraguay by at least two goals without allowing one and hope that England beats Sweden in order to go through to the next round. My prediction is that England and Sweden tie their next game)
Group C
Argentina
Netherlands
(The only question here is who will end up in first place?)
Group D
Portugal
(All Mexico has to do is tie with Portugal to secure a place in the next round...and if they lose they have to hope that Angola doesn't get more that three goals against Iran)
Groud E
(No team is guaranteed from this group yet...My prediction is that Italy and Ghana go through from here.)
Group F
Brazil
(Not a real surprise here although the defending champs aren't playing as well as they should be. Having seen a lot of Brazil in previous World Cups I know that they only get better as the tournament wears on...The Socceroos are the most likely to go through in second place here because Croatia must win by a large margin in order to join the round of 16)
Group G
(Switzerland and Togo play their second match tomorrow...my prediction here is that Korea finish in 1st with France or Switzerland in 2nd)
Group H
(Teams still have to play their second match...prediction: Spain in 1st and Tunisia in 2nd)

Man I hate the Italian team. Between cheap shots and diving all over the place I wish the worst on that team.

I hope these refs are getting reprimanded by FIFA as they're pretty much doing the exact opposite of what they've been told to do.

I think there's also a major problem with refs not calling fouls unless a guy falls. I saw an italian guy get his shirt pulled hard in the box and he stayed up getting no call and losing the ball. If he had gone down, like the Italians of all people usually do, I'm pretty sure he would have got a penalty kick. If falling is the only way to get a call, players will continue to do so.

Add Spain now to that list of teams with a spot in the round of 16 which brings the list up to 8 teams.

What will it take for Ghana to make it? I really hope at least one African team makes it.

A Ghana win will get them thru. If they draw, they will have to hope for an Italian win over the Czechs.

Can one of you guys tell me when the England/Sweden game starts today? Sportsnet/TSN say the kick off is at 2pm EST, but other sites are saying 3pm EST.
Edit: the official world cup site is saying 3pm EST so I'll go with that.

England's definitely in, and the only way Sweden misses is if they lose and T&T win their game by about three goals. T&T currently trails Paraguay 1-0.

The way Germany is playing, I think they have a good chance of winning this thing. Complete domination of Ecuador yesterday. Klose is on fire right now with 4 goals so far. Germany is looking good!
