I really appreciated the song once more once I learned (interview with Billy Joe in Guitar World Mag) what the interntion of the song actually was. It is written as a bitter goodbye to a longtime girlfriend who left him because he was always on tour. Listen to the words in that song, he is actually implying "i hope you had the time of your life while you were with me, because now you wont ever have this chance again."

I guess I learn to appreciate a song as poetry sometimes, and can appreciate a song more once I learn why it was written and what the lyrics actually mean.

Anyway, just an interesting (hopefully) tidbit.
People always seem to not really understand what BJ is writing on some songs, such as "wake me up when september ends". Its about is dad dying when he was 7 years old.........for some reason (I think its the video) people think its about this whole "anti war" theme. If you actually get to listen to the live version its actually a quite touching song that you can tell was written not to be a mainstream hit........just a last homage to his dad.

I Hate "New" Country! Garth Brooks started the decline and ever since then it keeps getting worse. I mean how low will they go and still call it country. Big and Rich is a great example. These guys are quite possibly the worst music I've ever heard.....they rap country songs for pete's sake! Johnny Cash must be rolling over in his grave.

Agreed. I think their later stuff, without Roger, is great as well. The Division Bell is a really good CD IMHO.

Yup. Division bell is an excellent album, particularly 'Coming back to life'. Seems to me (and Gilmour has denied this) it was directed towards Waters and his peculiarities which broke up the Floyd.

Glad to see I'm not the only Pink Floyd fan on this site. One of the greatest and most influential bands there ever was and ever will be.

Country music sucks!

Seriously, if you ever need a reason to get depressed or a reason to shoot yourself, pop in a country-music cd.

Music is about sound, not listening to a story about how your uncle is your brother and how you have a bbq sauce stain on your wife-beater. If I wanted to hear a story about trailor trash, I would pick up a National Enquirer.

Yeah, I've got some pent-up country music anger.

Or getting hammered at a hillbilly bar and getting into fights. It seems like every song I hear from Toby Keith is about that.

Much much good country exists.
Neko Case and The Sadies being two such examples.

Even good redneck country exists, see Hank Williams III.

Plenty of great country 'sound' out there that doesn't exactly blow up on country radio.

You could replace country music with rap music in your last sentence and say the same thing.

Generalizations are bad, and that is never more true than in music.
