Not insane, textbook "cap isn't real management". Only one year is guaranteed, but the additional years allow for the single year cap hit to be spread across three years. And when he retires after this year the remainder of the contract no longer counts, as there are no guarantees, but they can keep the cap hit spread for two more years.
