Ongoing Things You Bought Which Make You Feel Gud Thread

Bought an e-bike. Debated it all winter long. They can be expensive and I wondered if it would be fun for a few weeks and then collect dust like other bikes I've bought in the past and then be filled with regret for buying it.


Nope, best thing I've bought in a while. Biked late at night, early in the morning, evenings & weekends. Bought my wife one as well and we rode those things all over hells half acre. Saw parts of the city we wouldn't likely have seen otherwise and enjoyed many a beautiful summer days and evenings. Back and forth through Fish Creek end to end multiple times. Rode from our Braeside area down to and around downtown.


As of last night, I had put 1400KM on mine since buying early July.

Sparx skate sharpener. It in no way saves money but it saves a lot of time and it is fun to go into the basement with a couple beers and 3 sets of skates and run them through the machine.

Yeah I wish I had bout one of these several years ago. Not to save money but to sharpen skates for me and my son, would have been fun. Now neither of us play enough to make it worthwhile.

I am curious how much exercise you get on that? LIke 80% of a real bike? 50% 5% Do you track it at all? I could see enjoying that. Particularly, doing high speed passes by Fuzz's house when he is trying to get to his car.

I love my e-bike. Best purchase I've made in years. I have four kids that go to 3 different schools. So on parent/teacher conferences, I just hop on my e-bike and go to all 3 schools. Drive right up to the entrance doors as thats where the bike racks are.

I avoid all the traffic and parking issues. And its so fun to ride. They go quite fast

And I get zero exercise on it. I used to use the pedal assist but now I just use the throttle and never pedal. LOL. But its a blast

I bought two when they were on sale a couple years ago. My only regret is I didn't buy four as my 17 year old and 14 year old loves them too.

I come here to mourn one of my better purchases. A few weeks ago, my PS4 finally bit the dust.

Here is a computer that ran basically consistently for like 10 years straight as the primary entertainment system in multiple homes full of 3+ people and dogs. Rarely maintained with anything but a quick dusting. When it died, I opened it to deep clean it, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. All the components seem to still be in great condition. Not sure why it shut down. But it's probably the best machine I've ever owned.

Bike has like 5 power settings basically. Off, Eco, Tour Sport and Turbo. Can't really say how much more the motor does on each setting but the easy answer is it can do a little work or a lot. The days we had it on Eco and were going long distance up and down hills, we'd certainly feel it but a regular bike would have been much harder.

With that said, we biked WAY more this summer than any time in the past 20 yrs so that's gotta count for something.

Thanks. There is a huge mental health element to getting out and doing something fun even if the exercise is not set to level "Lance Armstrong" and hey, who wants to lose a nut anyways?

That's exactly it. We thoroughly enjoyed this past summer as a result of having them. Felt like we made the most of the season. Really, really had a good time with them.

But you can still certainly get good exercise out of them too. Our legs and cardio noticeably improved. We'd start most rides doing a good chunk of the work and only dialed up the power on the way back from a long ride.

Impacts are amazing tools. Had a driver for years and recently picked up an impact wrench. Game changer. What a tool to have at your disposal.

I have a shop full of power tools for woodworking/furniture making that I have accumulated over the years but I have decided to step back from the noise and dust. Going to learn how to work with hand planes and chisels; quiet, meditative, precise work.

Marketplace pointed me to a used hand plane for $20.00, sold by a guy hanging out in the back of a sketchy looking storage lot. After dismantling, cleaning and adjusting it still couldn’t cut wood until I spent another $28.00 on a new blade. A couple days of trial and error and I am making perfect shavings!

It’s good exercise which I also need.

Sounds like we might have similar bikes, one of the best purchases we have made in a long time.

I have a mid drive giant and the settings are identical. I use off & typically eco or tour we get decent distance and exercise. Ride constantly!

We have a bunch of these around the house. Wicked deal on them back in the day. Basically one on every floor and in the garage, so damn handy and convenient to have within easy reach.
