Why would we intentionally limit his offensive numbers and tank his trade value?

the article very much includes the line "Right now, it sounds like it’s pretty much Vegas for him."

I said this in another thread. It might be the only way Anderson signs a sign and trade to another franchise.

If he doesn’t do this, then we should be looking for a new GM.
To talk so much about Ras situation heading into the draft while having no work to show for it looks very bad. When there are two solid offers that meet your ask on the table, then maybe you hint that a move is close.

Because it won't be any higher if he plays and you just risk injury or bad numbers. If he won't budge you send him home and tell him not to report to camp.

It doesn't help that we know Vegas is ruthless and would probably be happy enough to bring Andersson in without an extension and then sign him next summer anyway.
Tkachuk, Hanifin, Andersson, yes all unique in their own way but still strikingly similar when it comes to restricting trade options.
If Conroy can pull a rabbit out of the hat with this Andersson trade I would love to see it. I still have faith. But I would also love to see the Flames trade an asset at peak value and get ahead of the market sometime, just once, I don't know.. just to spice things up a bit. Keep it interesting.

At least Chucky gave Tre more than one team he was willing to sign an extension with........

Ironically that would probably be a bad move as teams in Calgary's situation (the small market 7) will probably never attract a GM to work here again that isn't home grown as the job has too many limitations.

Maybe it's not so much Conroy and more our collective refusal as a fanbase to accept what our team and franchise really are?

But people need to chill. Tell Vegas and Andersson that they don't have the offer. Ask Andersson if he has anywhere else he'd sign or should the pivot to the rental market?
|
What of this is hindsight though?
Go look at the 2024 Draft day and Free Agency threads.
The people frustrated now were the people saying to trade Andersson then to maximize return.
This isn't hindsight.

This situation is actually really simple in my eyes.
Demand Dorofeyev and their 27 first. If they won’t do it then you hold on to Andersson until the trade deadline and ship him to the highest bidder as a rental.
Some team will think this is their year and get ancy to acquire Andersson for a playoff run.

Yeah, this is a great way to attract players down the line. Let's show how childish and spiteful we are. The rest of the locke rroom will love that too, a long time player and leader on the team is sent him because a teammate is doing things available to him within the collective bargaining agreement.
Thankfully Conroy is more mature than this nonsense.

Feel like it would be bad for the culture everyone on the team has been hemming and hawing if Rasmus were to start the next season on the Flames at this point. I do think when the Ekblad sweepstakes is done and dealt with, there will be some increased traction and it'll get done

I don’t think this one requires much hindsight. Keeping Andersson was at odds with what else they did last summer.

True but it’s also not crystal clear as written. Pretty much what? His top contender? Or THE ONLY place he’d sign? I think a writer as experienced as Pierre is being purposefully vague to give himself cover.
Even a free agent with power has a plan B, C or more. In hockey and life, plan A doesn’t always work out. (Unless there are some shenanigans going on).

Yeah you are right. Maybe this is enough of a bitch slap to snap him out of this Mr Nice Guy business. Take (another) lesson from Kelly McCrimmon.
CC was a tough ####er to play against. He needs that in his GM game. Stop being so nice.

Limiting Ras' ice time out of spite is dumb. That's also just gonna hurt whatever potential value he'll have at the trade deadline
