Divisional head-to-head records are critical. Those are 4 point games. Next up in importance are conference head-to-head records.

Putting aside the Blues' "God-assisted" road to the playoffs this season, St. Louis won 3 times out of 3 this year against the Flames (though Flames did earn a point by going to OT). That's a 5 point swing. 1 out of 6 points earned vs 6 out of 6 points earned. Head-to-head records really are so important in keeping yourself ahead of who you are in direct competition with. It isn't everything, and there were certainly many other opportunities in which the Flames could have made-up extra points throughout the entire season, but I always feel that winning head-to-head games against your competition is crucial in making the playoffs over them in the long run.

Yeah we can talk about the point left here or there, but the battle was lost in getting swept vs the Blues and Utah HC. They did not show up against those teams and it cost them.

To ‘get better at gimmicky stuff’, you need more high-end talent. You can't teach an average NHLer to excel at 3-on-3. If they had the skill to do that, they wouldn't be average.

The Flames and Oilers had very similar records in regulation time this year. The Oilers are in the playoffs because they can put McDavid and Draisaitl out in overtime. The Flames are out because they haven't got anyone better than Kadri and Huberdeau.

Helps when you have a 3 on 3 master like Johnny was with his quickness and hands. The team currently doesn't have anyone on that level

Zary and Coronato? Seem to have potential to be similar to Johnny/Monny.

I definitely hope we see Zary more in OT next year

As will Bruczkevich. People keep forgetting the numbers he put up . This kid reminds me of Gary Suter

I don't see Zary as a playmaker on the level of Gaudreau. Of course, he could surprise me yet. Coronato definitely has the shot to do Monahan's old job.

I see Brzustewicz as a bit of a longer-term project. He's only had one AHL season, and while his numbers were pretty good, he wasn't dominant at that level. I believe he'll make it, and be a difference-maker when he does, but not yet.

We're just very lucky we don't have to spell his name correctly to see him play.

To be fair, JG is almost impossible to replace. Posts like these make me reminisce about the' 22 team. Was elite. Too bad it got destroyed.

The 2022 team was the as good as I’ve ever seen the Calgary Flames play hockey.

Meh… just a measly 92pts in 67gms.

Ya, he’s been a bit overshadowed by Parekh’s numbers.

A team wins 12 straight to take the Flames out on a tie breaker. This is the baddest beat in hockey history

AHL numbers were a bit underwhelming though.

third best rookie defenseman in the AHL, behind Tristan Luneau and Luca Cagnoni, who are both in their D+2 season. Not bad at all for a defenseman who was 19 to start the season.

Not as badly as the Oilers are about to get destroyed in round one.

Bye bye connah.

Leads 20 year old d-men in scoring at the moment. Very slow start though, don't think he was used much early while he learned the pro game.

I'm so cheesed off by all of this. A team tied for 14th in the league with 96 points misses the playoffs. Watching those smug Habs fans enjoy playoff hockey with their inferior 91-point team really makes my blood boil. Also if it was only the Habs with an underserved playoff spot it might be easier to take. The Devils with their 91 points enjoying playoff hockey at the same time is the cherry on top.

I dont know if I'm that mad exactly, but it does gnaw at me. Thats a pretty raw deal.

I dont really know what I'd do to fix it though. Part of me likes 'straight points' but that could be skewed by the divisional/conference schedule. But...I think its perfectly understandable that fans of a team with more points on the outside looking in are kinda pissed. That makes no sense.

Yeah, the fact that we were ahead of TWO playoff teams in the East sure stings. I know there's been several years where a non playoff team in one conference had more points than a playoff team in the other... but has there ever been two teams worse? (And a full 5 points less each to boot!)

Also did a quick search and found that 96 points without making the playoffs ties the NHL record, but it has been done three other times. Didn't love the site though, can anyone confirm or prove otherwise?
