You don’t pay $10.5MM for that.
He is simply the best of a very sorry group of offensive players.

But he didn't start the season like this. He figured his game out sometime later.

I thought Huberdeau got off to a really hot start this season like 6 pts in the first 4 games.

Yes, but overall was really cool the first part of the season and then suddenly started hitting a new stride.

How often have we heard fans claim a player gave up on the team? Kadri gets it a tonne and I'm not sure what quantifies that other than being a historically high risk / high reward player.
Backlund is another who's been called lazy despite being a player who has propped up his linemates for much of his career, as the top shutdown forward, often playing through injuries. Monahan got dragged through the mud despite often playing through multiple injuries as well.
And if you're a defenceman that plays a lot of tough minutes? Better not make many mistakes or you'll get eaten alive by the fans.

TBF, the end of the Iginla era was more country club than it was Iggy being lazy, it was apathy more like it.
I do not think Backlund is lazy at all, not even close. I think age is finally catching up to him. The rumors of his injury holding him back most of the year speaks to that kind of. Younger Backlund would've just not played, heart and should captain Backlund plays, but at 50 percent. I suspect he's going to be out quite some time after tonight.
Kadri? It's not GAF or motor or heart. He gets real horse blinders on when he thinks he has to do it all himself. When he gets into that headspace, he's useless. I'll say I don't like his me 1st game. Doesn't fit the Flames mojo. I think he's fine all in all just goes through spurts of awful selfishness.

In his last 40 games, Huberdeau has 36 points for a 74 point pace.

Why Huska nails Zary to the bench , elevates Lomberg ? Why . 90%.of team AWOL .
Changes coming in off-season. Hopefully certain players are ready to make the jump next year. Playoffs ? You want to talk playoffs? WAFJ!!!
Well. This mornings Frost is how I feel about the Flames . We still have a game in hand to Redeem ourselves. Thanks for leaving the door open boys.

Wanted to put a nail in the Nucks coffin but at least got a point to hold onto that last playoff spot.
OT was sad but didn't mind the Flames game otherwise. They scored 3 pretty goals while Vancouver needed some bounces. Also thought the Flames were the more physical team. Of course the Nucks were going to push in the third down a goal with their season on the line.

Had a chance to create separation but I guess this is on par with rest of the season, can't pull away with that last spot. Not sure who's going to catch them though since all these teams fighting for that spot have consistency issues.

Aaaaaand opportunity lost.
Never the easy road with this team. Need 10 out of 18 I think. They have 10 playoff teams remaining. Going to have to pull up their socks.

Canucks had 4.69% expected goals, Calgary was lucky to get a point. Thank Wolf.

It was not a good game for Zary and I have no issues with him being stapled to the bench. Two bad penalties, one leading to a goal (just after the penalty expired).

This. Terrible OT to watch. This has become a real problem
It’s so fixable the last I heard was that it was never going to happen. I just can’t understand why

Bring in a 30 second shot clock, just like the NLL.

The bad: we lost in a stupid gimmicky shootout to the team we are battling with for WC 2.
The good: Finally, more CPers are realizing that Huska is a fantastic communicator but way over his head as a head coach.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Had some time to sleep on this game, reflect and think some more.
And I'm still angry.
Edit - To add something useful I found it interesting on the postgame show last night on the Fan, Cull mentioned how they'd like to get Sharangovich out of his funk by getting him the puck more. Huska mentioned (in a round about way) he didn't really like Zary's game at C after moving up for Backlund. Cull said similar.
What are the odds that, even though he should see the press box, Sharangovich is moved to 3LC and Frost moves up to replace Backlund. Zary moves to 3LC. Klapka comes in as 4RW and of course this all depends on Backlund's health / availability.

I had the game on PVR and watched the third and OT. I don’t get why everyone is so upset lol. I thought the Canucks blocked a lot of Flames shots and were right on top of the Flames in the forecheck preventing a lot of breakouts but I didn’t see the so called lack of effort people are complaining about. Canucks style is a little more freewheeling because they have the players to do it. Could have gone either way. Some of the Flames players didn’t give enough effort on the relentless back check we usually see and that’s what I saw.

For a coach who seems to have his finger on the pulse of the team, I really don't get it why Hruska keeps trotting him out there.

Who else are you putting out? You're just playing not to lose if you put half the forward roster out there in overtime/shootout. There is such a large glut of skill on the team you can't exactly ignore one of your most talented shooters in favour of someone else regardless of the struggles this year.
This team is where it is because of goaltending. Full stop. Expecting them to suddenly start scoring 3-4 goals a game with regularity now is crazy.
