Anyone who tells you that Jeff Bezos is socially progressive is either a liar or incompetent.

You can’t take anyone like that seriously.

So people can't complain about Gretzky being "anti-Canada" unless they also complain about athletes who are "pro-Canada?"

And throw their iPhone in the garbage or something.

The best way to dismiss criticism without addressing it directly is to make an impossibly high or just generally absurd bar that everyone must hit before they’re criticisms are heard.

This is the principle behind Jordan Peterson's "clean your room" schtick

I see that fellow maga loser, formerly the greatest player ever, Bobby Orr, has written a column defending Gretzky from all the outrage about him not wearing Canadian colours. Of course he completely ignores the real reason for all the hate and disgust, like the willfully ignorant old embarrassment he's become. I won't provide the link, but it was in the Toronto Sun, big surprise.

Like you said, that was an embarrassing read. He tries to defend Gretzky but his analysis has no substance. He can claim that Wayne is a great Canadian but actions speak louder than words. Patriotic Canadians have great pride for the country and certainly would be proud to receive the Order of Canada. The fact that it’s been over 16 years and he can’t respect the award to attend the ceremony speaks volumes about his character.

The article was written from the perspective of someone who basically says “he’s my friend so leave him alone” while ignoring what caused the outcry in the first place.

Personally, if Wayne wants to disassociate with Canada then that’s his right, but don’t make a mockery by accepting the role of honorary captain for a country you’ve moved on from. Bobby can defend his character, yet where is Wayne in all of this? If it truly meant anything to him he would try to make things right.

Who gives a #### about Wayne Gretzky? He retired 25 years ago, then has sucked since then.

I think there’s enough evidence to show what kind of person he is, and we also idolize hockey players too much. He was good at hockey, now he’s just an old alcoholic traitor that is given way too much airtime for what he did 30-40 years ago.

Rich old uneducated white man who has had people tell him how special he is his entire life... He and Trump are different sides of the same coin.

Furthermore, and much more criminally, his wine is over-priced and awful!

Worse than his wine is that absolute swill he was passing off as whiskey. My BIL thinks it's great because it comes from Gretzky. Consequently I have a few bottles in my basement from "gifts" he's given me.

Yup, Gretzky's daughter got him into the really elite golf world.

Gretzky was and is always about money. He was traded to LA because he wouldn't sign an extension in Edmonton. He was making 750K in 1987-1988 (winning a 4th Stanley cup) and going into the final year of his contract he wanted an extension of 2 million per year. Pocklington said no and traded him.

And now everything from businesses to appearances to tv to gambling commercials. All about money.

Gretzky is just one more person in a long line of people that should tell you one thing.

Do not idolize rich people and assign your own belief system onto them.

Rich people care about 1 thing. Money. why else would they be rich?

In Gretz case though, actively stumping or showing up at Trump events is certainly a low. You are essentially saying, i know who this guy is and represents, and I support it.

You can be a rich republican and quietly vote. You can support trump's policies and quietly vote. But if you are showing up to events, then you drank the kool-aid

Very true. But there are exceptions. Not many, but some.

Jarome Iginla. If a child wants to idolize a hockey player? I'd start there.

A quick follow-up would be my favourite Flame...Robyn Regehr. Disagree with him and they'll never find your body. Nobody's seen Hemsky in a while...

Let's just say, i would never go out of my way to see what Iggy thinks of politics; and he is smart enough and decent enough to keep it that way.
