He has been very good; weaker opponent, lots of open ice.
This is his type of game.

The more I watch Rantanen away from Mackinnon the more I can't shake that whoever gives him $14M might have giving Huberdeau $10.5M levels of regret.

Good period. Keep this up so that there is no crazy comeback.

Even as a rental we might have won a cup that year.

But Tre was in love with Valimaki.

I thought he was better against the US than he was against Sweden.

Hopefully he's just warming up. Canada will need him if they get to the final.

I am enjoying cheering for him. It has never been him that I hated but how the Oilers got him. He is an unreal player and its still bs the Oilers fell ass backwards to get him

He’s gonna be a main players for Canada for probably the next 10 years, when he’s representing Canada he has my support

It is different but the important thing is having linemates who have no interest in dumping the puck in. They can slow McDavid if he's carrying it through the neutral zone and if it goes to a winger who dumps it in, McDavid isn't Crosby and he isn't winning a dump and chase board battle. But if it's Point or Marner or apparently Stone, they lean heavily toward controlled entries. That's what makes a McDavid line hard to handle regardless of your physicality. He is a scalpel.

Mackinnon is basically the opposite because his game is so much physicality along with the speed, he's like a cannonball being fired at your defensive zone. He's way more disruptive and he benefits from physical wingers who are just going to get the puck on goal quickly amidst the chaos and outmuscle guys for loose pucks in front.

Two guys whose primary weapon is speed and use it in different ways.

The game is for all intents and purposes, over, need some Finnish penalties so Canada can work on the PP.

I expect some over exuberance penalties from certain members of the US on Thursday; that extra pp goal will help.

McDavid looks like McDavid to me.

He's always electric offensively, still a bit of a tire fire defensively.

Which is why Point and Stone are good linemates for him, they are puck hounds that win the puck back and still have offensive skill.

Causes havoc and brings talent if the opposition allows but is still an individual player at the end of the day.

Finland is the worst team in the tournament so he can do more of his thing.

But against the stiffest competition he forces the same approach and when it's not effect he doesn't adjust by using his linemates more and being more cerebral with his approach.

There's a reason he's the one generational guy with 0 cups. Brute force and individual play doesn't work out to wins when the other team has its #### together.

McDavid is fine and don't have a problem cheering for him in Canada or Flames colors. But the amount of credit he got from Simpson and Cuthbert for basic hockey play 5 ft inside the blue line on that Point goal is ridiculous.

McDavid is an awkward weirdo but he's a fantastic offensive hockey player.

Hate him on Edmonton, am fine with him on Canada.

Will go back to hating him once the tourny ends

Did Ference actually just give up his cup ring for a charity auction? What a mensch.

Listening to these guys in between periods over analyzing each play, it just occurred to be how silly analysts are. When the team is winning the narrative is every play is going well. When they’re losing the narrative is they have a lot to improve. It’s all silly.

I wonder if by summer he’ll have turned out to have pulled a Klingberg-light. Obviously it wouldn’t be as dramatic, but he’s under an awful lot of pressure to perform over the next few months.

See people rightly gave Binnington crap on the Guentzel goal but that right there is an enormous momentum save on Barkov and co.
