These are the lines I think the coaching staff is planning for the start of the season with potential spots for other players to fill:

Kuzmenko-Kadri-Sharangovich
Huberdeau-xxxx-Mantha
xxxx-Backlund-Coleman
Lomberg-xxxx-xxxx

Those 4 spots need to be filled. I think the following players have the best chance to fill those spots:

Zary
Posposil
Coronato
Pelletier
Klapka
Rooney
Hunt
Honzek

Obviously Zary and Posposil are going to take up two of them. I’m not certain which ones they will take (both have been given a chance at centre this preseason).

My preferred forward line up to start the season is this:

Kuzmenko-Kadri-Sharangovich
Huberdeau-Zary-Mantha
Honzek-Backlund-Coleman
Lomberg-Posposil-Klapka

Pelletier as the extra forward.

Coronato as the first call up for a winger injury. Rooney as the call up if there’s a center injury.

Not a Fan of Kadri with both Sharky and Kuzy. Those guys need a distributor and Kadri can be a puck hog.

Rooney shouldn't have a top 12 spot on this team as it's rebuilding.

Sharangovich - Kadri - Kuzmenko
Huberdeau - Zary - Mantha
Pelletier - Backlund - Coleman
Klapka - Pospisil - Lomberg
Rooney

Weegar - Miromanov
Bean - Andersson
Bahl - Pachal
Barrie

Wolf
Vladar

Pelletier on a short leash and Coronato fights with Honzek for the role if he doesn't perform.

Next game I would like to see:
Honzek Kadri Kuzmenko
Huberdeau Pospisil Mantha
Sharangovich Backlund Coleman
Pelletier Schwindt Klapka

Weegar Barrie
Bahl Andersson
Bean Pachal

Cooley
Vladar

I figure this would give Honzek, Pelletier, Klapka, Barrie, and Schwindt all a chance for a good final showing and it would also give Huberdeau another chance to build chemistry with Pospisil and Mantha.

Too bad for Coronato but I think he is firmly in the spot where Zary was last season. Waiver exempt and on the bubble with a fresher first round pick lighting up the preseason.

Zary and Pospisil are becoming the new heartbeat of this team. Its crazy to think that's questionable right now.

This is the way.

I'd rather over marinate Honzek. Let him adjust to the pro game in the AHL for the season plus another summer of putting on weight. He'll be ready to go next year. 82 NHL games is a lot for a 20yr old, especially for someone who only played 33 junior games last year. If we look at his development with a 10year lense, developing him for an extra year in the AHL is a no brainer.

No issue with sending Coronato down, but he's pretty close. Similar to Zary, he needs probably 2 full AHL seasons before he'll be ready. Will probably see him recalled this year as we inevitably get injuries. He will be a full time NHLer by next season if not earlier.

Really hoping for Pelletier to stick and play well on the 3rd line. However, he's not really doing himself any favors at this point in the preseason. His status of being in the NHL is only because of his waiver conditions. Minus that, he would be sent down. Hopefully getting his reps with Backlund and Coleman really help him. I'd probably give him an extended 10game look as a 3rd line winger before making decisions. Judging by preseason play, Klapka looks more of a natural fit on that line. Asking outloud, does Pelletier even get claimed if put on waivers???

I’d rather Coronato and Honzek get sent down than sit in the press box munching popcorn as a 13th forward. These guys need to play

Here's hoping the Athletic can find someone local or at least someone who gives a damn about the team rather than someone waiting for a job in Ontario to open up.

He was pretty poor anyways. All of his content seemed to be low hanging fruit and heavily regurgitated.

There's also Darren Haynes, who used to write for the Athletic. Not sure what happened there or what he's up to these days.

I kind of thought Tinordi was the ideal extra defenseman. Brings some size and physicality, something this team could use. And he’s not that good, not going to interfere with getting a high draft pick. But a few people saying Barrie is going to get signed so guess not.
